Created in support of Wrecsam2029, this film puts Wrexham’s people, creativity, humour, ambition, heritage and character centre stage. It’s a chance to see Wrexham beyond the headlines and a reminder of why so many of us believe this place is ready for the win. 🌟

Thank you so much to everyone who played a part in this film, both in front of and behind the camera. Especially our student Aerona Shi, who followed the events throughout the filming, and the brilliant WAoSA students who played her friends and appeared on stage with legendary North Wales actor, Mark Lewis Jones.

Let’s keep putting Wrexham on the map as a city of unique creative and historical importance, reflecting exactly what the Wrecsam2029 bid stands for.

Jonny Dixon played Daryl Moreton, neighbour of the Platts, for three years until 2009. He joined Coronation Street at 18 and finished at 21, gaining a huge amount of on‑set experience on the longest‑running soap in the world ⭐

This August, Jonny is bringing that experience to WAoSA with our Summer Bootcamp for ages 9 to 17. Across three exciting days, young creatives will explore what happens on a real film set, write, film and perform in their own short film, and receive an edited copy at the end 🎞️

The highlight of Jonny Dixon’s career was playing Karl Wright in Doctor Who during Jodie Whittaker’s very first episode. It was an unforgettable experience ⭐

One of Jonny’s favourite memories from filming was being asked if he wanted to do his own stunts. Jodie said “If you do it, I will do it!” So they did.

They both jumped off 40ft cranes, safely harnessed, repeating the stunt four or five times. Truly unforgettable.

We may not be doing our own stunts at the WAoSA Summer Bootcamp, but this is the level of real industry experience Jonny brings to the young people joining us this August. He has been a drama tutor for 16 years, inspiring and supporting tens of thousands of children, and he is passionate about sharing that knowledge with the next generation 🎞️
