🍴 Fantastic Enrichment Opportunities in Food Technology! 👨‍🍳🐟🎖️

Our Food Technology pupils have been enjoying some fantastic enrichment opportunities, bringing learning to life through hands-on experiences with visiting experts.

🐟 Year 10 – Fish Heroes Workshop

Our Year 10 students welcomed Mr Simon Gray for a brilliant practical fish workshop. Pupils watched demonstrations of crispy calamari rings, posh fish fingers and sea bass served with Mediterranean vegetables before rolling up their sleeves and putting their own culinary skills to the test!

🎖️ Year 11 – Army Ration Pack Challenge

Meanwhile, our Year 11 pupils took on a very different culinary challenge with Sgt Pete Plastow, Careers Adviser at the Army Careers Centre in Wrexham. Pupils explored Army ration packs, discussed the different foods and their purpose, and were challenged to create dishes using the contents.

From developing specialist food preparation skills to exploring how food and nutrition are used in completely different careers and environments, these experiences give our pupils opportunities to take their learning well beyond the classroom.

A huge thank you to Mr Gray and Sgt Plastow for giving their time, sharing their expertise and providing our pupils with such memorable experiences, and to our Food Technology department for continuing to create such varied and engaging opportunities for our young people. 👏

What a fabulous end to our time away together. Friendships strengthened, memories made, and smiles all round. An exciting visit to the Principality Stadium followed by a Cardiff Castle session that could rival any Horrible Histories workshop. The perfect finale to a brilliant trip. 🏰

Fantastic end to a second day with our visit to the Senedd and meeting our local Senedd representatives. Followed by a fabulous training session with Cardiff Blues and finishing our fun filled day with a bowling session and arcades adventures!

⚽️WELSH CUP VICTORY⚽️

A huge well done to our U15 (Year 10) football team, who produced a fantastic performance this evening to secure a 4–0 victory over Hawarden High School in the Welsh Cup! 👏

Special mention to Mauro, who was on fire in front of goal, scoring a brilliant hat-trick.

A superb team performance and a result to be proud of. On to the next round!

Cardiff Trip Update

Our pupils have arrived safely in Cardiff and are all settled after a great first day! 🙌

They enjoyed a visit to St Fagans National Museum of History, exploring some of the historic buildings and getting a fascinating glimpse into Welsh life through the ages.

Everyone is safe, happy and looking forward to the rest of the trip.

We’ll keep parents and carers updated with more photos and news from Cardiff as the trip continues!

🌟 A fantastic achievement from one of our Year 11 pupils! 🌟

We are incredibly proud of Jasmine, who at just 15 years old has written and published her very own children’s book, Brave Tummy!

Inspired by her cousin Seth, who has a stoma, Jasmine created the book to help young children develop a greater understanding of physical disabilities and, most importantly, to help children feel understood, included and proud of who they are.

Jasmine is hoping to visit local primary schools to read her book, raise awareness around disability and donate copies so that even more children can enjoy and learn from Seth’s story.

Even more wonderfully, proceeds from the book will be donated to charity, meaning every purchase will also help support an important cause.

What a wonderful example of compassion, creativity and using your talents to make a positive difference to others. A brilliant achievement, Jasmine, everyone at St Joseph’s is extremely proud of you! 👏

What a fantastic Open Evening!

We absolutely loved welcoming so many prospective pupils and their families into St Joseph’s this evening.

Our departments were buzzing, with staff and pupils incredibly proud to showcase the fantastic learning and opportunities available across our school. From making crumbles in Food Technology and pickleball in PE, to quizzes in RE and MFL, there was so much going on throughout the evening!

A special mention must go to our wonderful pupils, who were brilliant ambassadors for St Joseph’s. Our pupil tour guides did an amazing job showing families around and spoke with real passion and pride about what makes our school such a special place to learn and belong.
