"📝 New Blog Alert!

Unregulated children's services often leave vulnerable young people without the care and support they need. In my latest post, I discuss the urgent need for better training to equip staff with the skills to truly make a difference.

💡 Let’s ensure every child receives the care they deserve.

Blog I’m currently on day two of a five-day “Team Teach” trainers course, focusing on conflict management, de-escalation, and therapeutic approaches. Even at this early stage, it’s already got me thinking about the importance of proper training in care settings—especially with the recent spotli...

Myth: You can be sued for giving first aid

This myth needs to be shown the door as it could cost someone their life. Some may be discouraged from volunteering and helping others in an emergency due to the fear they may be sued.

This is precisely the reason we now have in England and Wales the Social Action, Responsibility and Heroism Act 2015 (SARAH Act). The SARAH Act in combination with common law makes it extremely unlikely a person can be sued for providing first aid so long as the rescuer is acting responsibly and heroically.

A helpful reminder for any parent. If your child can't tell you in words, they will often use their behaviour to let you know how they’re feeling. This might come out as anger.

Underneath these behaviours, a young person who seems very angry may also be feeling things like fear, stress, sadness, hurt or worry – or might be struggling to cope with a difficult experience at school, at home or in another part of their life that they feel unable to talk about.

It can be helpful to remember that a person who’s feeling angry a lot of the time probably isn’t feeling very happy – and while it might not be obvious, what they often need is support. Supporting children and young people to put their feelings into words can help them to feel less overwhelming, making it less likely that they will need to act out.
