It's great to hear that has ditched the lightning charger on their new iPhone 15 for a more universally accepted standard in the USB-C.

It's vital that we design and manufacture products that are easy to repair and replace and this is the first step to reducing e-waste by encouraging consumers to reuse existing chargers that they use for other devices.

The other week some students had the opportunity to visit a Veolia recycling facility to understand what happens to our waste when we have finished with our products and how they can design products better to be more circular and sustainable.

Key take seats were:
1. Some plastic milk bottles now have a clear lid to allow them to be recycled more often. When they are blue or green, they can only be

turned in to a colour darker than that. Leaving it clear gives it a longer circular life.

2. When you put your plastic milk bottles in the recycling, clean them, put the lid on and don’t crush them. This will prevent them getting mixed up with card.

3. In this particular area (Merseyside) plastic such as margarine tubs don’t get recycled. So it uses more energy to transport these items through their sorting and then to incineration. Check what your council recycles.

Some more thinking about the whole user eco system today for several different scenarios followed by tomorrow visiting public places and observing people interacting differently with products.

Looking at alternative users today from the user ecosystem and how the influence the design of the overall product during user centred design module with level 4.

It’s interesting how they all can relate back to 2 or 3 products even more so in todays digital world.
