I am absolutely over the moon to have been shortlisted as a finalist for North Wales Childminder of the Year at the Best of Welsh Business Awards – and to come away last night as the Runner-Up 🥈 was something I never expected.
I was completely shocked, overwhelmed, and incredibly grateful. 🥹❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who nominated me and voted for me. Your support means more than I can put into words. 💕 I also want to thank every family who has entrusted me to care for their children. Childminding isn't an easy job – the days are long, there's plenty of hard work behind the scenes, but it's also filled with love, laughter, cuddles, adventures and special memories. 🌈🧸🎨
My aim has always been to make every child feel loved, happy and safe, and to care for them as if they were one of my own. ❤️

What made this achievement even more special was being able to celebrate it with my beautiful daughter by my side. Cordelia Mchugh-Wright truly is my right-hand woman. She loves, cares for and plays with the children as though they are her own siblings, helps me every day without hesitation, and willingly shares her home with them. I genuinely couldn't do what I do without her. ❤️👩‍👧
To be recognised in this way is such an honour, and I am so proud of what we've built together at Auntie Alana's Childminding. 🏡✨

Being with a childminder isn't always about organised activities, toys, soft play, or trips to the park. Sometimes, some of the best learning happens during everyday experiences.

Today, our little ones took charge of their own trolleys while shopping. What might look like a simple trip to the supermarket is actually packed full of learning opportunities!

🛒 Developing spatial awareness as they navigate aisles and other shoppers.

🛒 Building independence and confidence by pushing and steering their own trolley.

🛒 Strengthening memory skills by helping to remember items from our shopping list.

🛒 Practising early maths by counting how many items we need – "We need 4 apples, can you count them?"

🛒 Learning colours, shapes, and recognising different foods.

🛒 Developing communication skills through conversations, choices, and problem-solving.

As parents, shopping trips can often feel rushed, and understandably so! But when children are with their childminder, we have the time to slow down and let the journey become the learning.

The shopping wasn't the task today – the learning was.

Sometimes the most valuable experiences come from simply involving children in real life.
