We enjoyed exploring play dough, giving the children the opportunity to squish, roll, pinch, stretch and create. This provides lots of learning opportunities. Manipulating the dough helps to strengthen little hands and fingers, supporting the development of fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination.
The children also explored textures, colours and shapes while using their imaginations to create their own ideas. We talked about what they were making, introducing new vocabulary and encouraging communication and language development.
Play dough is also a lovely sensory and calming activity, encouraging concentration, creativity, problem-solving and perseverance.
