This week’s curriculum has focused on how we can all help care for our planet and oceans, especially as we celebrated World Ocean Day on Monday. πŸŒŠπŸ’™ The children took part in a variety of activities that encouraged them to think about ways we can protect our environment, care for the animals that share our world, and make more sustainable choices every day. β™»οΈπŸŒ±

We painted our own miniature worlds and for World Ocean Day, the children enjoyed exploring our exciting ocean-themed sensory tray, filled with a variety of sea creatures. πŸ³πŸ πŸ¦€ Some animals were hidden in water, while others were trapped in ice! Using a range of tools and utensils, the children worked hard to free the sea creatures from the ice and help them return safely to their ocean home. 🧊✨

We also got creative by designing and making our own under-the-sea scenes. πŸŽ¨πŸ™ As part of the activity, the children noticed that the ocean creatures had to share their habitat with plastic and rubbish. πŸ—‘οΈπŸŒŠ This sparked lots of thoughtful discussions about pollution and the importance of disposing of our waste responsibly, especially when visiting the beach. πŸ–οΈπŸ’š

These conversations led us to think about how much rubbish we all create in our everyday lives. πŸ€”β™»οΈ We explored ways to give unwanted items a new purpose by looking around Preschool for materials we could repurpose instead of throwing away.

The children worked brilliantly together to create a music wall using recycled materials 🎡πŸ₯, a bug hotel for the insects and creatures in our garden 🐞🏑 (so far, some snails have already moved in! 🐌😊), and a scarecrow to help protect the plants growing in our garden. 🌻🌱 The scarecrow was made using items from our lost property box, giving them a brand-new use!

We have also been enjoying the fruits (and vegetables!) of our gardening efforts. πŸ“πŸ₯¬πŸŒΏ The children have been adding freshly grown lettuce leaves to their snacks and lunchtime sandwiches, as well as tasting strawberries and peas that they have grown themselves. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ

Towards the end of the week, we collected all the crisp packets from our lunch boxes and were amazed to discover we had enough to create a giant tree! 🌳✨ This helped us think about ways we can reduce our waste. We discussed how bringing snacks in reusable containers and buying larger packets to portion out at home could help reduce the amount of plastic we use. β™»οΈπŸ’š

With Father’s Day approaching, next week we will be celebrating our families. We will be exploring similarities and differences, learning about inclusion, and recognising the importance of celebrating all families and the special people who care for us. πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ’•

⚽️ Football Fun Week for Alfie πŸ’™

This week’s curriculum has been centred around a variety of football-themed activities, giving the children lots of opportunities to develop their physical skills, teamwork, ball control, creativity, and confidence. Most importantly, all of our activities have helped raise money for a former Laugh and Learn pupil, Alfie. πŸ’™

The children had a fantastic time creating their own celebration shakers πŸŽ‰ using a range of craft materials to cheer on their friends during our exciting penalty shootouts! ⚽️πŸ₯… Sara proved to be an excellent goalkeeper 🧀, although a few determined players managed to score some goals past her. Every child received a medal for their efforts and participation πŸ….

At half-time, we enjoyed the traditional orange slices 🍊 before getting creative with them! The children dipped the fruit into paint to create colourful prints and patterns for a beautiful collage. Not only did the artwork look amazing, but it smelled wonderful too! 🎨✨

Our football-themed messy tray activity challenged the children to use straws to blow mini footballs into the goals. 🌬️⚽️ They quickly discovered that controlling the strength of their breath was key to scoring a goalβ€”it was trickier than it looked! πŸ˜„

The children also loved designing a giant football shirt πŸ‘•βš½οΈ, choosing their favourite colours and working together as a team to complete it. They then moved on to creating a shiny trophy πŸ†, carefully cutting and decorating it with sparkling materials. We all agreed it looked like a trophy we would love to win!

A huge congratulations to Gabe and Darcy, the winners of our sponsored Design Your Own Football Shirt competition! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰ Every child put in a fantastic effort, creating unique football kits while helping to support Alfie’s recovery journey. πŸ’™

πŸ™ A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference and is greatly appreciated. If possible, please could all sponsorship money be returned by Tuesday, either in cash or via the JustGiving page.

πŸ’™ Thank you once again for your kindness, generosity, and continued support for Alfie. It means so much to us all.

🐾 This week’s curriculum has been all about our annual β€˜Pet Week’ event! 🐾 The children enjoyed an exciting week filled with wonderful hands-on learning experiences as a variety of animals came to visit us. 🐢🐰🐍

We had the pleasure of welcoming dogs, guinea pigs, bunnies, a tortoise, chickens, lizards, snakes, and even some beautiful alpacas! πŸ¦™βœ¨ It has been amazing to watch the children interact with the animals so gently and carefully while learning about how they feel, what they eat, and where they live. 🌍πŸ₯•πŸŒΏ

The children also had great fun taking part in an animal scavenger hunt around the preschool, searching for hidden animal pictures and making the sounds of each animal when they found them! πŸ΅πŸ¦πŸ” There were certainly some very funny noises heard throughout the day! πŸ˜‚

We explored the meaning of endangered animals πŸ˜πŸ’š and, in honour of David Attenborough’s recent 100th birthday, the children took part in a vote to choose an animal to adopt through the WWF. πŸ—³οΈπŸΎ The winning choice was a gorilla, which is now officially our Laugh and Learn adopted animal! πŸ¦πŸ’š

After meeting our visiting tortoise, the children loved designing and creating their very own tortoises using a variety of creative materials and resources. 🎨🐒

Our concentration and literacy skills were also put to the test during a fun fishing activity 🎣🐠, where the children searched carefully for fish with their names written on them. They showed fantastic perseverance until they found their very own fish!

Throughout the week, learning has been led through play and hands-on experiences, helping the children expand their knowledge of animals and how to care for them, while also encouraging kindness, care, and respect for living things. 🐾❀️

⚽ After half term, we will be holding our sponsored Football Week to help raise funds for a former Laugh and Learn pupil who is currently undergoing medical treatment. The children will take part in lots of football-themed activities while learning about the importance of keeping fit and healthy. πŸ₯…πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’™

β˜€οΈ This week’s curriculum has been focused on Sun Safety ahead of some warmer weather (hopefully! 😎🌀️)

🍦 We created our own ice creams using a range of sensory resources, which led to some lovely conversations about where we might go to enjoy a tasty ice cream treat.

🎨 Using junk modelling for a purpose, we designed our very own sunshine pictures β˜€οΈ and explored creativity through different materials and tools.

πŸ§ͺ We carried out a fun β€œWill it melt?” experiment, where the children made predictions and tested their knowledge to discover the outcomes.

πŸ”Ž The children thoroughly enjoyed a Sun Safety scavenger hunt, sparking important discussions about how we can keep ourselves safe in the sun πŸ§΄πŸ•ΆοΈπŸ‘’

😎 We loved designing and creating our own sunglasses and sun hats using a variety of tools and resources.

🌞 Using playdough and spaghetti, we made our own sunshine creations. We discussed the different lengths of spaghetti, which led to conversations about our own heights πŸ“

🧡 Our fine motor skills were put to the test with our Cheerio sun threaders β€” everyone showed fantastic concentration and perseverance!

🌊 In our sea-themed tuff tray, we rescued under-the-sea creatures and explored ways we can help keep our oceans safe and clean πŸ πŸ™β™»οΈ

✨ The teaching has been accessed through the children’s play, helping to expand knowledge while also developing valuable transferable skills.

🐾 Next week’s curriculum will be all about Pet Week! We are so excited to welcome a range of animals to visit β€” from alpacas πŸ¦™ and chickens πŸ“ to our furry friends 🐢🐰

✨ This week’s curriculum has been all about SHAPES, and what a fantastic week it has been! πŸ”ΊπŸŸ¦πŸŸ’

Our learning has been embedded through play using the planned activities and exciting resources available. The children have been busy testing their knowledge with shape-matching tuff trays and creating beautiful shape-filled butterflies πŸ¦‹βœ¨

The children also designed their very own β€œshape buddies,” using shapes with purpose and creativity πŸŽ¨πŸ”· We had so much fun taking part in a shape hunt outside in the sunshine β˜€οΈπŸ”

It has been wonderful to see the children’s learning develop through their conversations, confidence, and imaginative play πŸ’¬πŸŒŸ

Today, we also celebrated the 100th birthday of David Attenborough πŸŽ‰πŸŒ We made him a special birthday card which we will be posting to him πŸ’Œ

During Pet Week, we will be holding an Endangered Animals Day 🐼🦧🐒 The children will vote for an animal to adopt through WWF, a charity closely linked with David Attenborough ❀️🌿

Next week’s curriculum focus will be all about Sun Safety β˜€οΈπŸ•ΆοΈπŸ§΄
