Sports betting has become increasingly visible online, appearing across apps, websites, social media, sports coverage and gaming spaces.

Even when young people are not legally old enough to gamble, they may still encounter betting messages through adverts, influencers, tipsters, friends or adult accounts.

Our latest guide highlights key risks, including:
• Easy online access
• Gambling becoming normalised around sport
• Peer and influencer pressure
• Free bet offers
• Impulsive spending and chasing losses

It also offers practical advice for parents, carers and educators on starting calm conversations, setting safer digital boundaries, spotting warning signs and finding support.

Year 6 Leavers' Hoodies Have Arrived!

This week, our Year 6 children proudly received their much-anticipated leavers' hoodies and we think you'll agree that they look fantastic!

As a special Year 6 privilege, the children will wear their hoodies for the remainder of the academic year, celebrating their final weeks at Whipman Woods and the exciting journey ahead to secondary school.

The vibrant Fire Red colour was chosen by the children themselves through a democratic vote, giving them the opportunity to have their voices heard and putting British Values into action.

We're so proud of our Year 6 children and can't wait to see them making many more special memories together in their final term with us.

WHIPMAN'S SACRE COMPETITION WINNERS!

Before half term, we were delighted to receive some fantastic news following a competition organised by SACRE to create artwork for the new Nottinghamshire Agreed RE Syllabus.

A huge congratulations to Reyon (Maple Class), whose artwork was highly commended and featured in the winners' presentation, and an extra special well done to Lewis (Oak Class), who achieved an incredible 1st Prize, winning £100 worth of book tokens for our school!

We were also thrilled to receive this feedback from SACRE:

"The quality of your children’s work and their comments demonstrated that there is some fine teaching going on at Whipman Woods."

As an additional honour, the original artwork has been requested for display at the new RE Syllabus Launch Event at Eastwood Hall on 17th June and will also be included within the published syllabus document itself. These two children have truly left their legacy on a resource that will be used by schools across Nottinghamshire – an incredible achievement!

We are immensely proud of Reyon and Lewis, and we would also like to thank all of the children who took the time to enter the competition. Your creativity, thoughtfulness and hard work were outstanding.

Well done to everyone who entered!

PUPIL PARLIAMENT VIPs!

What a fantastic way to conclude our Pupil Parliament members' work on the Flying High Trust Character Curriculum!

On Thursday, Lexa, Asil and Damilola proudly represented our school at Nottingham's Council House, where they presented their group's ideas to a panel including the Flying High Partnership's CEO, Deputy CEO, Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Finance!

After sharing their ideas through a pre-recorded presentation and answering questions from the panel, our children demonstrated confidence, creativity and thoughtful consideration of how their suggestions could benefit both their own school and the wider Trust community.

With children from 30 Flying High schools taking part, this was a truly memorable experience and one that our pupils should be incredibly proud of.

Well done, Lexa, Asil and Damilola – you were outstanding ambassadors for our school. Your communication skills were OUTSTANDING!

SATs WEEK CELEBRATIONS!!!!

As we come to the end of SATs week, we want to say how incredibly proud we are of our amazing Year 6 children.

They have shown resilience, maturity and determination throughout the week, approaching every challenge with such a positive attitude. No matter where their journey began, each and every child has worked so hard and should feel extremely proud of themselves.

A huge thank you to Miss Fleming and Mr Stephen for the care, dedication and encouragement they have given our pupils every step of the way. Their support, guidance and belief in the children has helped make this week such a success.

We are also so grateful to our families for all of the support given at home and to the wider school community for helping create such a calm and positive atmosphere throughout the week.

Now it’s time for Year 6 to relax, celebrate and enjoy a well earned rest this weekend — they have absolutely earned it! 👏💚
