Skillshub Cumbria will receive £2,499,989 from the Government’s Local Skills Improvement Fund to support the development of in-demand skills training in low carbon, land based and logistics, digital, and catering and hospitality.

The funding will make sure more people can access qualifications at Level 3 and above with the creation of new training hubs and delivery of high-spec equipment across Cumbria.

NEW skills training opportunities are set to be launched in growing sectors in Cumbria after further and higher education training providers in the county were awarded a multi-million-pound funding boost.

Lakes College is set to launch its new Apprenticeship Academy next week for people looking to start an apprenticeship from September 2023.

The academy will officially launch at the college's Open Evening on Wednesday, December 7 from 5pm to 7.30pm - and budding apprentices are encouraged to come along to find out more.

Skillshub Cumbria at Lakes College was opened this week, with Jo Lappin, chief executive at Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, and Suzanne Caldwell, managing director at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, cutting the ribbon.

The centre will offer a professional meeting place for local and national employers and apprentices, with uses ranging from a hub for small and one-to-one business meetings to a comfortable place to work on accounts or planning applications.

The opening was part of the wider Skillshub Cumbria project, which aims to ensure that there is a healthy supply of workers meeting Cumbria’s skills needs.
