What a very busy term we have had!!

Lots on hands on learning and experiences were afforded to all the students.

Our year three student, Charlotte has now progressed onto managing her own yard in preparation to leaving in the summer and securing a position within the industry.

Our year two students are now successfully working together and running the R2R racehorse retraining yard. We have even had the opportunity to get the racehorses outs competing, bringing home some shiny ribbons.

Our level 1 students have been busy with the ponies, helping with the seasonal changeover and keeping on top of the main yard.

I think everyone would agree what a super start to 2026 we are all having .

The students were very excited to welcome our on-site chiropractic professional Costello Chiropractor Worcester, katie works on Humans and animals.

Katie has done a number of session’s with the students, educating them about the muscle and skeletal make up of the horses and ponies.

All the students agreed that the learnt a lot and had a lot of fun doing it!!

*no horses were harmed during or after the session.

We have had a very busy time at the yard over the Christmas period.

We have kept continuety for the students and invited them to continue to come in and help look after all the horses and ponies on site. We find this helps with the adjustment of getting back to studies when the new term starts.

We have lots going on this term, the new Racehorse retraining centre is being launched this month, the driving ponies are going to be busy with their get back to work programme and, Max has an important operation on his back - all the rehab work will be undertaken by the students and support staff.

The staff and management look forward to welcoming back for the new term, and hope this frosty spell doesn’t last too long…… ❄️

We all had a marvelous evening recently for our Christmas social.

We encourage all the students to arrange and get together out of college time. We feel this important for them to grow self confidence, self esteem and learn about safe and kind relationships.

This month we had a lovely Christmas meal in Worcester.

Now, what will the students plan for next term….

We have had a busy few weeks at the college, and last Friday was no different!

Mark Cubberley, from equine Vets paid us a visit to castrate some young colts.

With this being an excellent learning opportunity, the students got stuck in and ably assisted the procedures.

Safe to say, the students learnt all about castrations and what it entails and will hopefully take that knowledge forward.

We welcomed back our first, second and third year students last week.

The young people have all hit the ground running, made so much easier by keeping contact with us over the summer break and coming in to keep the yard ticking over.

The students got down to their English and Maths, with good feedback from the tutors. Alongside these sessions the students have been honing their equine skills.

One student has had the amazing opportunity to work alongside a very experienced member of our staff, helping prep for a national championship driving show.

Coming along as travelling groom, the student also got to stay away and help prep for the actual championship class, and then back stepping for the class.

Ok, so we had two!! They are so tiny they count for one…. Surely!!!

When one special moment becomes two!

Last week, our horse-loving patient Cheryl enjoyed a visit from Shetland pony Bruno, thanks to our friends at Kingsleighs Equine Education Centre - Specialist Post-16 Equine College.

Knowing Cheryl’s passion for racehorses, the Kingsleighs team brought a second, surprise visitor to see her on our In-patient Unit on Saturday – beautiful Millie their 13-year-old ex-racehorse 🐎

“She brought a great big smile to my face,” said Cheryl, who has owned a number of horses – including a beloved ex-racehorse, Braemare.

“It meant the absolute world. There is something about seeing a horse, being close to a horse – the smell. It did make me realise just how much I missed it, and just how kind and thoughtful people are.

“Here, it is that feeling of people picking you up, giving you this enormous hug, and helping you feel safe and reassured. You can just be yourself and that specialist support is there as well.

“It is a place of real calm and tranquillity.”

Our heartfelt thanks to the Kingsleighs team for bringing Bruno and Millie to see Cheryl, helping make moments to treasure 💙

We are having a very busy weekend indeed! With lots of work experience opportunities for the students - both on and off site!

With the team competing off site at Allens Hill Competition Centre on Saturday with Sinndarella and Batman, an extra pair of hands was very much needed!

Immy, our year 1 student, prepped the horses the day before - bathing them and setting the tack ready, and then assisted loading and travelling with the horses to Allenshill.

It was a very productive day with Sinndarella winning her class and Batman being placed in the combined eventer training class.

Sunday, we headed over to the Three Counties showground with Jerry and Kenny to compete in the carriage driving classes.

Again, Immy helped prep the horses yesterday, bathing them to within an inch of their lives and then wrapping them up to keep them clean overnight! With two students to help today, we managed to come home with a first place for Jerry in his class. Kenny had a lovely time trotting around the main arena, which added to his education and training.

Lots was learnt this weekend with the training opportunities undertaken.
