The Hive Public and University Library | Worcestershire Archive & Archaeology Service | Business Centre | Space for Hire l Cafe

The Hive is a landmark building run in partnership between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester. The Hive hosts not only an integrated public and University library service but also Worcestershire's Archive and Archaeology Service and the Worcestershire Hub, a one stop shop for enquiries on all County and District services. Featuring one of the biggest children's libraries in the country (including an innovative outdoor 'Story Island') and The Cafe run by Bellrock's catering team, providing coffee, snacks and delicious cakes, The Hive is sure to attract locals and visitors alike. Set in beautifully landscaped grounds, The Hive had been designed to provide you with an inspirational learning environment as well as a place to just 'be'.

Witches, wizards, wranglers of magical creatures and those loyal to he who must not be named.

On the 8th of October as the sun sets and the mist rolls in. The Hive will be transformed into a wizarding wonderland with decorations and activites to amaze and astound. Press your robes, polish your wands and dust off those broomsticks for a night of magic and mischief in the Childrens Library.

Almost all of the activities are free and drop-in, including dueling, wand making, the sorting hat, a lego challenge, treasure hunt and magical story times.

Our Family STEM Club is relaunching on Sunday 11th October!

Taking place on the second Sunday (2-3pm) and repeated on the third Thursday (6-7pm) of each month, these sessions are free and suitable for families with children aged 7-12 years.

Due to essential IT maintenance on Sunday 4th October, there will be disruption to the public library services available between 9am and 1pm.

Computers, printing, Wi-Fi, self-service kiosks, the library catalogue and online library accounts will be unavailable.

University Eduroam will remain available, and The Hive will be open as usual.

Have you got a favourite banned book?

To mark Banned Books Week 2026, we've put together a display on level 1 which is filled with books that have faced censorship from governments, educational institutions and other organisations. Alongside these challenged titles, you'll find stories of writers, readers and campaigners who have stood up for freedom of expression, and learn about the ways books and works of art continue to be censored around the world.

We've got a fun-filled weekend lined up at The Hive.

Join us on Saturday for a Winnie the Pooh themed Lego Club from 10am, before Project Pigeon swoops in to take over our 11am Rat-a-tat session with interactive stories and a movement workshop. Then, at 3pm, we reclaim Rat-a-tat from the pigeons for our usual storytime adventures.

The fun continues on Sunday with more Rat-a-tat interactive storytelling, plus a special Illustrated Book Club. Together we'll listen to The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson, using the story as inspiration for our own creative writing and illustrations.

All weekend activities are free and drop-in, so there's no need to book. Just come along and join the fun.

Have you noticed all the pigeon artwork popping up around Worcester?

This Sunday Project Pigeon lands at The Hive to take over the 11am Rat-a-tat slot with a story time and movement workshop, followed by a craft activity.

Then from 12-4pm you can collect a map from the pigeon information coop at the Hive and follow the Catch the Pigeon Art Trail
