๐ฟ Hi to all the new faces here - welcome!
With so many of you joining recently, it felt like a good moment to introduce myself properly.
I'm Jo. I run small group willow weaving workshops, mostly in and around Worcester. I started weaving during the COVID pandemic lockdowns and then really enjoyed running some community craft sessions as a volunteer. Craft activities are such a great way of bringing people together to chat, connect and try something new!
I took the plunge and began teaching my own workshops last summer, thanks to encouragement from some awesome people - you know who you are ๐
I focus on simple, classic beginner projects, the ones I learned when I was starting out, because I genuinely love that part of the process. Watching someone go from "Iโm not very creative, Iโll be rubbish at this" to holding something they've made themselves, and being proud of it โ thatโs a really great feeling.
Three years ago I made a big job change, stepping away from a corporate career that was badly affecting my mental health. I was looking for something more aligned with how I wanted to live - outdoors, connected with nature, being around amazing humans and doing work that supports others. Willow weaving became a big part of that, and alongside the workshops I now work with local charities and organisations that help people get more out of life.
So that's me. I'm still fairly early in my willow journey, which I think helps in my teaching - I remember what it feels like to be a complete beginner!
I love practicing different techniques and trying out new ideas sat in the woods or in my garden under the suspicious glare of my dog Luna (I accidentally poked her once with the end of a willow rod and sheโs never quite forgiven meโฆ.)
If you'd like to come along to a workshop, you can find all upcoming dates on my calendar. ๐
(Thankyou so much to Growing Wild Worcester for the lovely photo ๐)
