Confidence in sales isn't about becoming someone you're not. It's about helping people have better conversations, ask better questions and communicate the value they already bring.

That's exactly what we aim to achieve in our Sales Training. We're grateful to Danielle Hann from GPM Plus for sharing her experience.

"We were nervous about 'selling' as it was not our main role for most of us. We wanted to get it right because we all realise the value of the services we offer. The facilitator was so adaptable, learnt a lot about our sector and made the content very relatable. They provided a lot of insight into how we can adapt what we do in our clinical roles into our sales and business development roles.

Since the training we are all more confident in our approach especially in potential client meetings. Our confidence in the business, in our products and services and our conversion rate have all improved."
Dr. Danielle Hann, GPM Plus

A huge thank you to Danielle and the team at GPM Plus for trusting us with your development. It's been a pleasure to work with you, and we're delighted to hear that the training has helped your team approach business development with greater confidence while staying true to the way you support your clients every day.

Does everyone in your team know what they're paid to do?

It sounds like a simple question, but it's so easy for roles to become blurred. Priorities change. People spend more time on what's urgent than what's actually important.

The result? People hesitate, work gets duplicated, important tasks get missed because everyone assumes someone else is dealing with them.

Clear roles don't just reduce confusion. They help people make better decisions, take ownership and focus on the work that adds the most value.

If you'd like some practical ways to bring more clarity to your team, we've shared them in our latest blog.

A strong reputation opens doors, but one poor experience can close them again just as fast.

• Are your people responsive when issues arise?
• Do they take ownership - or pass problems on?
• Is the customer experience consistent, no matter who they speak to?

When service falls short, it chips away at your reputation and undermines hard-won results.

If you’re worried about reputation gaps between what’s delivered and how it’s experienced, call 0845 450 0988 or visit

How do you avoid competing on price?

When markets become more challenging, it's natural to ask "How do we sell more?"

But there's often a better question: "How do we become more valuable to the right customers?"

That simple shift changes the conversation.

Instead of focusing on discounts, you focus on trust.

Instead of chasing transactions, you build relationships.

Instead of trying to be the cheapest, you become the supplier customers genuinely value.

The businesses that come through difficult markets strongest are rarely the ones with the lowest prices. They're the ones that understand their customers' world.

They solve problems consistently.

They make life easier.

They deliver on their promises….consistently.

Those are the businesses customers don't want to replace.

Price will always matter. But when customers see genuine value, expertise and trust, price becomes just one part of the decision-not the whole decision.

As management consultant and author Peter Drucker famously said: "The purpose of business is to create and keep a customer."

The businesses that keep customers aren't always the cheapest. They're the ones customers believe are worth staying with.

Let us know in the comments what you’re doing to increase your value to customers rather than reduce your price.

One way to improve customer loyalty: Bring insights and ideas, not just products.

The suppliers who customers value most don't simply respond to requests, they bring fresh thinking, they spot opportunities and they highlight potential risks.

They share insights customers may not have considered.

When you consistently add ideas rather than simply deliver products or services, you become more than a supplier. You become a trusted advisor.

That changes the conversation.

Instead of competing primarily on price, you're creating value through your knowledge, experience and perspective.

Strong leadership has a lasting impact on every part of an organisation, from communication and decision making to confidence and accountability.

Following completion of the Intelligent Dialogue Leadership Development Programme, James Craner, Finance Director at BIL Group Limited, shared his reflections on the difference it has made to the business.

“Investing in leadership development pays off well beyond the training room - it strengthens how a business communicates, makes decisions and supports its people through change. That's exactly what we've seen from Intelligent Dialogue's Leadership Development Programme.

Since completing the programme, communication across our Senior Leadership Team has improved noticeably - we're more open, more consistent, and better aligned as a group. A number of individuals have visibly grown into their leadership roles, taking more ownership and handling difficult conversations with far more confidence than before.

The whole team has spoken highly of the programme, and particular credit goes to Diane Banister, whose delivery was excellent throughout - practical, engaging, and tailored to our real day-to-day challenges. I'd have no hesitation recommending Intelligent Dialogue to any organisation looking to strengthen its leadership team”.

Thank you, James, for taking the time to share your experience. It has been a genuine pleasure working with the team at BIL group Limited, and we're delighted to see the positive impact the programme has had. We wish you all every success as you continue to build on these strong leadership foundations.

One way to improve customer loyalty? Build relationships before you need them.

The strongest customer relationships aren't built during a crisis, although that's often when they're put to the test. They're built long before then, through regular conversations, by showing genuine interest.

By consistently following through and keeping the promises that you make.
When customers feel understood and valued, they're far more likely to stay loyal. When they feel like just another transaction, loyalty is much harder to earn.

Every interaction matters, even the small ones. A quick check-in, asking the right questions or taking ownership of an issue all help build trust over time.

As Susan Scott writes in Fierce Conversations:
"The conversation is the relationship. One conversation at a time, you are building, destroying, or flatlining your relationships."

Customer loyalty isn't usually won with one grand gesture. It's built one conversation at a time.

One simple way to build stronger customer loyalty? Make your customers' lives easier.

Many businesses underestimate how much loyalty is won or lost through everyday interactions.

Think about the suppliers that frustrate you. It's rarely because of the product itself. More often it's because they're difficult to deal with

Phone systems that send you round in circles.

Websites that make simple tasks complicated.

Processes designed around the business instead of the customer.

Over time, those small frustrations add up. The businesses that keep customers loyal usually make the opposite choice. They focus on making every interaction as straightforward as possible.

That means:
• Responding quickly
• Communicating clearly
• Taking ownership when something goes wrong
• Doing what you said you would do

None of these things are revolutionary, but they are memorable.

2024 research from the Qualtrics XM Institute found that customers who rate an experience as "easy" are significantly more likely to trust the company, recommend it to others and buy from it again.

Customer loyalty isn't always built through grand gestures.

More often, it's built by removing the little frustrations that make people think twice about coming back.

One of our core values is Practical – that we don’t just deliver theory we provide the tools to help people implement their learning.

For us, training isn't about delivering information, it's about helping people perform better when they're back at work.

Too much training leaves people thinking "That was interesting..."

But a week later, nothing has changed.

We believe good training should be different.

It should give people techniques they can use in their very next customer conversation.

It should help them handle difficult situations with more confidence.

It should solve the problems they face every day, not the ones that only exist in textbooks.
Our programmes are built around real conversations, real customers and real commercial challenges.

Because if it doesn't work in the real world...it doesn't work.

As management thinker Peter Drucker famously said: "There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done."

Practical training doesn't just teach people what they could do. It equips them to do what actually works.

That's what we mean by practical.
