πŸ“š Back to school is just around the corner! πŸ“š

We hope your children have enjoyed a summer full of stories, adventures and new discoveries.

Whether they have been taking part in the Read to the Beat Summer Reading Challenge 2026 or simply enjoying a good book over the holidays, we'd love to hear about their favourite reads when we return to school in September.

Perhaps they have discovered a new author, enjoyed an exciting adventure, or found an interesting fact book they couldn't put down!

Time for another Myth Buster...
❌ Myth 8: "My child reads at school - they don't need extra reading."
βœ… Busted!

The Challenge helps children enjoy the fun of reading. Choosing their own books to read for pleasure builds independence, vocabularly, empathy, and creativity in ways classroom reading can't always provide. Plus children who read regularly over the summer are less likely to experience the "summer dip" in literacy skills and are more prepared for the new school year.

88% of children participating in last year's challenge said it helped them enjoy reading and 79% of children said it improved their reading skills.

Whether they love superheroes, animals, mysteries or magic, there's something for everyone in the library. Check out the Reading Agency booklist here https://readingagency.org.uk/get-reading/find-a-read/read-to-the-beat-2026-summer-reading-challenge/.

πŸŒ³πŸ“š Taking Pride of Place at Our School! πŸ“šπŸŒ³

Standing proudly in our entrance way is our Literacy Tree Flagship School Plaque, a wonderful recognition of our commitment to developing a love of reading and literacy across our school. πŸ†

We are incredibly proud of our work with Literacy Tree and the positive impact it has had on our curriculum. Through inspiring texts and creative learning opportunities, Literacy Tree has helped foster a real love of books, imagination and storytelling among our pupils.

It is fantastic to be recognised as a Flagship School and to have the opportunity to share our journey, ideas and successes with other schools. We look forward to continuing to inspire young readers and writers for years to come! πŸ“–βœ¨

πŸ“πŸ§  Taskmaster Maths Challenges - underway at Noremarsh Junior School! πŸ§ πŸ“

Last week, our children across the school have been putting their maths skills to the test with a series of exciting Taskmaster Maths Challenges.

Year 5 took on the challenge of building the tallest construction using only paper and tape. The classroom was full of creativity, problem solving, teamwork and determination as children worked together to design, test and improve their structures.

It was fantastic to see so many innovative ideas and resilient learners embracing the challenge. Well done, Year 5! πŸ‘

We had the pleasure of welcoming Jennifer Killick this week, one of Mrs MacMeekin’s all-time favourite authors!

With so many of Jennifer’s books on her shelves, that they spill across two bookcases, this was a very special visit.

Jennifer shared the real-life inspirations behind some of her wonderfully monstrous creations and spoke about the key ingredients of a great horror story: memorable characters, humour, and, of course, snacks! πŸ‘»πŸΏ

Our students were amused, transfixed, and inspired throughout the session. Thank you, Jennifer, for such an engaging and unforgettable visit!
