π Join the Summer Reading Challenge 2026! π΅
This year's challenge is Read to the Beat, celebrating the connection between stories, music and creativity.
Children can register at Royal Wootton Bassett Library and take part in a summer full of reading adventures. Whether you're reading at home, in the garden or on holiday, we'd love to hear about your favourite books when we return to school in September!
Find out more about the challenge and get involved this summer.

Time for another Myth Buster...
β Myth 8: "My child reads at school - they don't need extra reading."
β
Busted!
The Challenge helps children enjoy the fun of reading. Choosing their own books to read for pleasure builds independence, vocabularly, empathy, and creativity in ways classroom reading can't always provide. Plus children who read regularly over the summer are less likely to experience the "summer dip" in literacy skills and are more prepared for the new school year.
88% of children participating in last year's challenge said it helped them enjoy reading and 79% of children said it improved their reading skills.
Whether they love superheroes, animals, mysteries or magic, there's something for everyone in the library. Check out the Reading Agency booklist here https://readingagency.org.uk/get-reading/find-a-read/read-to-the-beat-2026-summer-reading-challenge/.
