Heading back for one of my favourite walks, in collaboration with Ad Gefrin
Come and see the abundance of foraging in autumn, take in the beautiful scenery, then come back to Ad Gefrin to enjoy an optional seasonal lunch together. (last year’s mushroom risotto was exceptional!👌🏻)
Walk is moderate and roughly 3 miles.

The Northern Fungi Festival is back, if you’ve been before you’ll know this is going to be an amazing, family friendly, fungi-tastic event!
This year we’ll be up in the borders at the beautiful Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping, surrounded by unimproved pasture and ancient woodland, we’ll be hoping for plenty of lovely fungi to introduce you to. Camping is available directly through the campground.
We’re still busy finalising the line up but things are coming together and we’ll be posting more soon.
This year we have had to ticket the event to cover running costs, giving you access to the festival site, guided walks and fascinating talks from a range of fungi experts, with additional workshops available to add on.

I love the many seasonal traditions that you form as a forager and this is one that I always enjoy sharing with others. Gathering a wild moorland tea mix, while nibbling bilberries and taking in the amazing views across to the cheviots. DM or email to book [email protected]

Day 2 - Felting workshop!

Using mostly naturally dyed wool from the previous day, from local rare breed sheep, we explored different felting techniques.
This was really a day about using creativity for self care, as well as a day for championing heritage crafts and wool. We had another beautiful day to just relax and enjoy the process, to play rather than produce. Enjoying good company and more good food!

First ever dyeing with Lichens workshop!!

A wee bit on the hot side but it was a beautiful day and we certainly got the bright sunshine we needed to show the magical alchemy of turning wool first dyed pink to blue!

We focused on four different lichens, that are most common and can be sustainably gathered in small amounts but only when windblown after winter storms etc. We used a couple of different methods, including using mordant to get a completely change the colour and everyone left with six different colours of wool to take home. 🧶

There was lots to take in but it was well paced with lots of time to enjoy cold nettle cordial, a lovely lunch then end with some refreshing berry sorbet, all home made with love.

We will be further exploring natural dyeing, next time with fungi in late autumn 🍂 🍄‍🟫
