Our Junior Actors classes give children aged 6–11 the space to explore, create and grow; both as young performers and as individuals.

At TATA, Junior Actors is about more than playing drama games. It provides an explorative approach to learning techniques by making exercises engaging, accessible and age-appropriate as students to learn:

🎭 Character and script work
💭 Improvisation and imagination
🗣️ Voice, movement and communication
🤝 Collaboration and ensemble skills
✨ Confidence and creative expression

Whether your child is already happiest onstage or is still finding their confidence, they’ll be supported as an individual and encouraged to discover their own creative voice.

No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to have a go!

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE TRAINING 🎭✨

Our Meet Team TATA series continues! Next up is a practitioner who combines over a decade of drama teaching with professional theatre-making and inclusive practice.

MEET KATIE (she/her) 👋🏻

Katie is a GTP-trained, QTS-qualified drama teacher with over a decade of experience inspiring young performers across Suffolk.

A graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University in Contemporary Theatre and Performance, Katie has toured her own original work across Europe and directed more than twenty school productions—from plays to full-scale musicals.

Katie also has extensive experience supporting young people in a range of settings. Her work with Chickenshed MK developed her inclusive theatre practice and experience of working with children and young people with SEND.

This combination of professional theatre-making, educational expertise and inclusive practice feeds directly into Katie’s work at TATA. She creates an imaginative, encouraging environment where every young actor’s voice is valued, individual needs are recognised and students feel supported to take creative risks.

As we prepare for the new term, here is a quick reminder of what students should bring to their Academy classes:

🖤 A TATA T-shirt or plain black top
🖤 Black leggings, joggers or trousers suitable for movement
🖤 Hair tied securely away from the face
💧 A named water bottle

WHO’S BEHIND TATA? 🎭✨

With the new term approaching, we thought we’d introduce the team behind The Actor’s Training Academy and the familiar faces you might see in our classes!

MEET GRACE (she/her) 👋🏻

Grace is TATA’s founder and principal: a professionally trained actor, creative practitioner, theatre director and qualified teacher.

She trained at Masters Performing Arts and Guildford School of Acting and holds a BA (Hons), PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status in Drama and Dance.

Grace’s acting career spans stage and screen, with credits for organisations including Warner Bros., LUX, regional theatres and national tours. In 2021, she received Best Actress Awards.

Alongside performing, Grace has worked creatively with some of the East of England’s leading theatres, including Eastern Angles Theatre Company, the New Wolsey Theatre, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and the Mercury Theatre. Her recent credits include Associate Director for The Great British Bake Off (2026) Treasure Island (2025) and Songs for a New World (2024) alongside West End director Jake Smith, as well as directing Eastern Angles’ devised production The Girl Who Cried Shuck and Ride or Die for National Theatre: Connections.

Grace has taught acting from Early Years through to degree level, including roles at professional musical theatre colleges and as being a Course Leader for a BA Musical Theatre programme. She is currently part of the Mercury Theatre’s Directors Programme 2026/27 and sits on the Advisory Board for the Music & Drama Education Expo 2027.

Grace founded TATA as an independent academy to give Suffolk’s young people access to thoughtful, industry-informed actor training. Her professional experience feeds directly into the room, where every student is treated as an individual artist and encouraged to develop their craft, confidence and creative voice.

Our Mini Actors classes are the perfect introduction to acting for young performers aged 4–7, giving children the freedom to explore, play and discover what they can do.

🎭 YOUNG ACTORS COMPANY BURSARY | FUNDED PLACE AVAILABLE 🎭

We’re delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of Melton Parish Council, we are able to offer one fully funded bursary place with TATA’s Young Actors Company.

Our Young Actors Company is for young people aged 14-20 who are passionate about acting, theatre-making and developing their skills in a supportive, professional and creative environment.

This bursary will give one young person the opportunity to take part completely free of charge for the full duration (September to April 2027) removing financial barriers and helping make high-quality performing arts opportunities more accessible within our local community.

To be eligible:

✨ the young person must live in Melton, Suffolk.
✨ Is a young carer and/or is experiencing financial barriers that may otherwise make accessing the Young Actors Company difficult.
✨ Is aged 14-20 and interested in acting, performance and theatre-making, learning from an industry professional.

We are incredibly grateful to Melton Parish Council for supporting young people in our community and helping us ensure that finances don’t have to stand in the way of creativity, confidence and opportunity.
