Medical Mavericks

I've been looking everyday for when brighton venue goes on sale, are purposely waiting until the early bird prices go up?
Last week, our Health & Social Care students enjoyed a visit from the amazing Medical Mavericks! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ

During the visit, our students got involved with..

โ—ผ๏ธ Recording and printing an ECG from their hearts
โ—ผ๏ธ Using a real needle to take fake blood from a dummy arm
โ—ผ๏ธ Having a go at keyhole surgery
โ—ผ๏ธ Looking inside their own bodies with an ultrasound machine
โ—ผ๏ธ Scanning their retinas with an ophthalmoscope attached to an iPhone
โ—ผ๏ธ Listening to their pulse with a pulse doppler
โ—ผ๏ธ Experiencing different eye diseases with pathology goggles
โ—ผ๏ธ Taking a basic medical obs including, blood pressure, oxygen level and temperature

It was a really insightful day and our students enjoyed it so much! Thanks Medical Mavericks!
#ThankYou Medical Mavericks for spending time with our students

Medical Mavericks have been on site completing a wide range of activities with Health and #Social Care students.

Students (and staff) were able to practice key hole surgery, drawing blood, stiches as well as take a number of measurements such as blood pressure and heart rate.

Everyone enjoyed the activities, it was exciting to see how professionals are trained, and it was very inspirational.

We were so fortunate to welcome the team from Medical Mavericks to campus this half term. Students studying the T-Level in Health and the NHS Careers + course were invited along to the session, which saw a fantastic range of medical equipment which students were able to try out.

Medical Mavericks are a company, giving students insight and inspiration into careers within the medical profession. As part of our session, they brought in a range of equipment that is perfect for students to practice with. The group were able to try their hand at taking blood with a prosthetic arm that actually has veins filled with blood, as well as use ultrasound equipment to view their own and their partners veins, not to mention use a Laparoscopic Simulator, which allowed them to practice the skills required to conduct keyhole surgery!
Great to have Medical Mavericks visit us this morning for another fantastic workshop.

It provided A Level students with the opportunity to engage with real life medical equipment. This was of particular interest to learners looking to pursue a career in science or medicine.

Students practised checking each otherโ€™s pulses, taking ultra sounds and even taking blood from a mannequin.
Year 7 students had a fascinating talk from the Medical Mavericks during their Skills for Life assembly this week! There are SO many jobs available in the NHS! Do the research, you might just be part of our wonderful NHS in the future! #thinkingtothefuture #WGSyear7 #skillsforlife #startthinkingearly #sflt #wgs

Last week, Ms Jeynes our Head of Health and Social Care arranged for Chloe from the Medical Mavericks to deliver an interactive careers session for some classes of students in Year 9 and above.

This was a hands-on workshop where students had access to a wide range of medical equipment and were able to take (fake) blood, record and print an ECG, tried keyhole surgery, saw the inside of their body with an ultrasound machine and even took pictures of the inside of their eyes!

A brilliant, informative session and feedback from students and staff was very positive.

๐Ÿš‘ This week Access to HE students have engaged in a range of activities as part of their โ€˜Career Development Weekโ€™

โœจ They participated in an interactive session with Medical Mavericks, where students were able to practice stitching fake skin, use a real needle to take fake blood from a dummy arm and try their hand at keyhole surgery!!

When you think of a Nurse, what do you think they do?

They're not all the same you know! There are loads of different specialist Nurses and in this short clip, you'll hear from Davina who is an amazing Cancer Research Sister who helps care for patients who are are brand new drugs that are in the final phases of patient trials.

It is a tough job as some of the patients may have gone through traditional treatments that have not worked and of course this is science so we have to have fair trials and some patients may be on the placebo...

Check out what Davina has to say and keep an look out on how you can access more videos like this in The Medical Mavericks Academy V2.0 very soon.

PS: Davina is doubly amazing as she is also my wife!
