At Wroxeter (the Roman City) Year 3 were able to make practical links to their previous History unit (the Romans) and discover more about how the Roman conquest of Britain had a direct impact on our local area. The pupils learnt about how the Romans constructed the city of Viriconium (Wroxeter), which was the fourth largest in Roman Britain, in an attempt to entice the local Cornovii tribe to come down from their hillfort on the Wrekin and join in the Roman way of life, peacefully. Historians believe that the original inhabitants of the area of Wolverhampton (Wolverhampton did not exist until 985AD) were members of the Cornovii tribe, who came down from the Wrekin. At Wroxeter the pupils were able to see the ruins of the once great city and were taken on a costume-led tour to learn more about life at Wroxeter as a Roman. They also saw the remains of a Roman mosaic, which indicates that a very important Roman lived in Wroxeter during the period of Roman Britain.

Today we paid tribute and attended the funeral of Bernadette Kent who was a former Foundation Governor for many years at St Mary’s. As well as being a governor, over the years, she came in to school to pray the Rosary with many pupils. Her claim to fame though must be her Irish coffees at the Parish Christmas fayre. RIP Bernadette. 🙏

Aspiration Dress Up Day - Thank you!
Our recent Aspiration Day (suggested by our school council) was filled with excitement and inspiration as children came to school dressed as their future selves! From doctors and engineers to artists, teachers and astronauts, the creativity and ambition on display were truly wonderful. The day encouraged pupils to dream big, talk about their goals and celebrate the many possibilities ahead. It was a joyful reminder that every aspiration begins with belief, effort and imagination.
A huge thank you to members of our school community who visited lots of different classes! We had visits from;
Firefighter Michael
PCSO Trudy
Nurse Laura
Author Charlene
Social Worker Sophie
Business Owner Wayne
Probation Officer Hayley
National Highways Traffic Officer Joe
Accountant Lindsey
We are so grateful to them all for the time they spent inspiring the children at St Mary's.
Here are just a few of the many photographs that staff took that day!

Last week, we were devastated to find out that one of our much-loved lunchtime supervisors (and mum to two of our children) - Katy Gibbons - suddenly passed away. All staff, parents and children were informed last week and, as a school community, we are grieving. Katy was a wonderful colleague and friend, and an amazing mum. If you can support the family in any way, we would really appreciate it🥰🙏🏻
