ONEWA - Early Closure - 12th March 2024 28/02/2024

Staff Training afternoon

As you are aware, at Ormiston NEW Academy, we believe it is vital to invest in our teaching staff to give your children the best opportunities and outcomes possible. With that in mind, on Tuesday 12th March, the school will be closing at 1.40pm to facilitate an important training session with staff.

All children will have lunch within the Academy, at the usual times, before being released from the site at 1.40pm.

ONEWA - Early Closure - 12th March 2024 This is a place of excellence where students are welcomed, supported and cared for. It’s a place where we develop our values of endeavour, practice and discipline with students from the moment they join us and we have more students joining us than ever before.

Dear families,
We are excited to announce that we are launching our first ever plaid skirt in academy colours!
The teal, grey and black plaid skirt compliments the academy blazer wonderfully and really stands out. The skirt can be worn instead of trousers or black skirts but a blazer, shirt and tie must still be worn alongside it (These kilts are an optional item and not a requirement).
If any families are interested in purchasing the skirt, you can find it at the Lads and Lasses school uniform store in either Codsall or Penn locations.

🎶 Speak up Premier 🎶

On Monday 5th February, at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, a handful of students performed live on stage. Performances included singing, rapping, poetry and so much more.

The talent that our NEWA students have is incredible and we were so proud of them, staff and parents were lost for words! 🎤

To reward our year 11 performers they were surprised with a limousine hummer outside of the academy. So when they arrived at the Wolverhampton Grande it was done in style. Let’s just say there were some shocked faces.

'Speak Up work together, with local artists and the National Theatre, to produce creative work in any form that they choose. Developed for young people whose voices are not always heard, Speak Up activity is co-created with each school and its students.'
Our students created content around ‘at school stresses’ so young people could relate and work together.

🎙️ We are so pleased to announce that one of our year 11 students Oliwia has made it through to the North/West Regional final of Ormiston's Got Talent. 🎙️

Oliwia sent over a virtual audition to OAT where she performed an original song accompanied by her guitar.

The Regional Final will take place on Tuesday 5th March and we are excited to see Oliwia's performance. 🤞🏽

Our Speak Up group celebrated the end of term with a Christmas party. The students have spoken about their favourite memories of the project so far, made inspirational decorations for the Speak Up tree, played games and listened to live music.

One of our students Charlie said "I can't wait to see how far this project can go and how many students lives it can change for the better, like mine"

🏆 Congratulations to Sky and Ola for being runners up in the KS5 OAT SociolEyes Competition. The competition was based around the question 'To what extent, and in what
ways, does patriarchy continue in the UK?'.

Both students spent time writing a detailed essay on their thoughts and feelings around this topic. 📖

Congratulations both!

Yesterday, our students took a trip down memory lane and visited the iconic Black Country Museum.

The students walked through a beautifully lit up town as well as watching performances from Black Country characters. What a lovely way to start the Christmas celebrations.
