📝 Making spellings fun! 🔤

A great way to embed spellings is to get hands-on and physically build words.

Games such as Scrabble and Bananagrams are brilliant for practising spelling while keeping learning fun, interactive and engaging. 🎲✨

Last week, another of our learners transitioned back to his forever school.

We are always sad to see our learners leave, but moments like this are a true measure of success for our alternative provision. Our role is to support, nurture and prepare young people to take their next steps with confidence.

We’re incredibly proud of him and wish him every success in his next chapter. 💫

At Leading Futures, we believe it’s important to pursue your passions, embrace new challenges and never lose sight of the things that bring you joy.

📚✨ A LEGACY THAT GOES BEYOND MUSIC ✨📚

The recent passing of Dolly Parton has seen the world remember a true music legend. But perhaps one of the greatest lessons she leaves behind is that character is not measured simply by what you achieve, but by what you give back. 💛

Dolly never forgot her roots. Throughout her life, she gave generously to her communities and causes close to her heart. One of her greatest passions was literacy. Through her Imagination Library, hundreds of millions of books have been gifted to children, helping to nurture a love of reading from an early age.

That legacy really resonates with us at Leading Futures.

📖 Every one of our learners has visited our library and personally selected a book they would like to read.

🔖 They have personalised bookmarks because reading shouldn't always feel like a lesson, a test or something we have to do.

Sometimes, it should simply be about reading for enjoyment.

For some young people, finding the right book can be the beginning of discovering that they actually enjoy reading. Giving learners choice, ownership and time to read something that interests them can be incredibly powerful.

💬 BIG Live RSE Lesson

Yesterday, our learners participated in the BIG Live RSE Lesson, delivered by Brook Services.

The session explored important topics including healthy relationships, pressure and consent, giving learners clear and age-appropriate information to support informed and safe choices.

Our learners got involved through a live poll and Q&A session, providing a safe and supportive opportunity to discuss these important topics and ask plenty of questions.

A really valuable session supporting our learners with the knowledge and confidence they need as they navigate relationships and growing up.

🎓 Celebrating Continued Professional Development at Leading Futures 🎓

At Leading Futures, we believe that learning never stops for our learners or for our staff.

As part of our commitment to continued professional development, our team are encouraged and supported to undertake ongoing academic study, professional qualifications and training that strengthen our knowledge, practice and the support we provide to young people.

We are therefore incredibly proud to share that Mrs Rennie-Gibbons has been awarded a Master of Arts in Education (Inclusion and Special Educational Needs). 🎓👏

Her dissertation explored the important question of whether a lack of belonging increases the risk of self-destructive behaviours in young people.

This is a subject that closely reflects our commitment to inclusion and to creating environments where every young person feels valued, accepted and that they belong.

A huge thank you goes to our learners and their parents and carers who gave their consent and took the time to complete surveys as part of the research. Your contributions helped provide valuable insight into young people's experiences and perspectives.
Research like this continues to inform our practice at Leading Futures and beyond.
