Last week Preschool took part in road safety week, where the children discussed how to keep safe when crossing the road and how they can stay safe when in the car or public transport. We carried out transport games and even went on a walk to show the children how to safely cross the road.

Last week we took part in children in need by having a pyjama party. The children made their own pudsey bears, went on a number hunt, spoke about the importance of helping others and different ways we can help each other. They made party hats and took part in lots of arts and crafts. A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who donated to help raise money for children in need.
Today at BLN we are raising money for Children in Need. Please send your child/children into nursery wearing pyjamas & a small donation. Thank you.
Last week the nursery was super busy exploring autumn and Halloween. We have had spooky messy jelly play they explored the texture and discussed what it felt like, we did some leaf printing and making our own ghosts. We did some Halloween experiments and worked together to save the spooky animals out of the ice. The children explored the Halloween house and found a home for the pumpkin which they decorated together. The children really enjoyed our nursery Halloween house and said they wanted to make another Halloween house, so together they worked at created another house and discussed some of the things they could like to have in their house. They finished the week off with a spooky story and some hot chocolate and a party. What a fun week.
The nursery will be closed to all funded children on Monday 30th October to Friday 3rd November. Funded children will return back to nursery on Monday 6th November.
Preschool have been very busy last week with the season changing, they have been taking part in lots of messy and creative autumn activities. From potion making in the garden, to scented play dough, exploring the gloop, going on an autumn hunt and exploring the farm with chocolate mud and hay. They have been learning about black history and talking about different black inventors such as Garret Morgan who invented the traffic lights. Pre-school created their own traffic lights using apple printing and spoke about what the colours mean for the traffic. While learning about black history, pre-school also got to try some Caribbean snacks and were given the opportunity to butter their own Caribbean bun. They spent some time in the baking room and helped prepare the Jamaican patties for snack.
Going off the children’s interests Pre-school looked at the topic transport last week. They made a bus station and train station, did lots of messy play activities involving transport, car number games, car number hunt, made a train using milk crates and a cardboard bus which they loved. They spoke about all the different types of transport they use to get to nursery and listened to the sounds that different types of transport make. Pre-school had so much fun.
This week will be having lots of discussions and activities around mental health as children's emotional well-being is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health helps them develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults.
On Thursday 28th September BLN took part in Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning. We would like to say a massive thank you to all our wonderful parents/carers who donated. Also we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff and children at BLN who baked the cakes, cupcakes, shortbread and brownies allowing us to raise a grand total of £86.55 for this brilliant charity, so thank you very much. We hope you enjoyed the hot drinks and sweet treats.
At Berrington Lodge Nursery we encourage our children to be independent, one way that we support this is by allowing the children to choose and serve their own breakfast. Not only does this allow the children to be independent but it also builds and supports their hand-eye-co-ordination when using the different utensils and jugs. We have also found that carrying out breakfast this way it builds on the children’s confidence and leaves them feeling in control. It’s a great way for the children to start their day.
The children have been baking away today in preparation for Macmillan coffee morning, which will be held on Thursday 28th September from 7.30am till 9.30 am. We are looking forward to seeing all our lovely parents and carers on Thursday morning where you can purchase some of the delicious biscuits that the children have made today in aid of Macmillan cancer support.
