Remembering Dame Esther Rantzen

The University of Wolverhampton is saddened to hear of the passing of Dame Esther Rantzen, the renowned broadcaster, journalist and campaigner.

In July 2009, the University honoured Dame Esther in recognition of her outstanding contribution to British broadcasting and journalism, alongside her tireless charity work.

Best known for founding Childline, her decades of work helped give a voice to children and young people and made a lasting difference to countless lives.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.

Businesses across the West Midlands are being invited to discover how they can access emerging talent, support workforce development and strengthen their future recruitment pipelines through a new initiative from the University of Wolverhampton.

The University is hosting a special employer launch event on 14 October to introduce its Professional Development Work Placements programme, which will provide all undergraduate students with a guaranteed professional placement experience as part of their degree from September 2026.

International students are progressing into degree and postgraduate study with a 100 per cent pass rate after completing programmes at the University of Wolverhampton International Study Centre, helping to build the skilled workforce needed by businesses, public services and communities.

Students from the Centre's September 2025 and January 2026 cohorts achieved a 100 per cent pass rate across all pathway programmes, including Foundation, International Year One and Pre-Master's courses. The results mark a significant milestone as the first cohort progresses from the International Study Centre into degree-level study at the University of Wolverhampton.

🤝 City of Wolverhampton Council (Wolverhampton Today) and the University of Wolverhampton have strengthened their commitment to the city through a new Civic University Agreement (CUA) providing a shared framework for collaboration to support Wolverhampton's long-term future.

The agreement formalises the longstanding relationship between the Council and University and brings together two of the city's most significant anchor institutions around a shared vision for the city.

Professor Ebrahim Adia, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: "The University of Wolverhampton is proud to reaffirm its commitment to the city through this Civic University Agreement. As an anchor institution, we have a responsibility not only to educate and inspire our students, but also to work alongside partners to create opportunities, tackle inequalities and support the long-term success of our communities."
