Today we celebrate the feast of St Francis of Assisi, a saint remembered for his deep love of God, his care for people living in poverty, and his respect for all of creation. 🌍💚

St Francis reminds us that we are called to live simply, show kindness, care for our common home and bring peace to others through our words and actions.

At Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy, we pray that we may follow his example by treating others with compassion, caring for God’s creation and becoming people of peace, justice and charity.

🍽️ FREE SCHOOL MEALS – IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR FAMILIES 🍽️

From September 2026, changes have been introduced to Free School Meal eligibility following the end of Transitional Protection.

There are now three categories of Free School Meals:
✅ Targeted Free School Meals (TFSM)
✅ Expanded Free School Meals (EFSM)
✅ Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)

For families at Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy, it is particularly important that your details are up to date, as some families may now qualify under the new criteria, while others may have experienced a change to their entitlement.

📌 Why does this matter?
Eligibility can affect not only access to a free meal during the school day, but in some cases may also link to Pupil Premium funding and additional support for students.

We strongly encourage parents and carers to:
👉 Check that the school has your current details
👉 Respond promptly if we contact you requesting further information
👉 Contact us if you are unsure about your child’s entitlement

🖤❤️💛💚 BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2026 HONOURING OUR COMMUNITIES 💚💛❤️🖤

Throughout October, Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy is proud to mark Black History Month 2026 and this year’s theme: Honouring Our Communities.

This month is an opportunity for our whole school community to celebrate, learn, reflect and act. We honour the stories, achievements, courage and contributions of Black people who have shaped our school, our city, our country and our world, past and present.

At OLSC, our Catholic mission calls us to recognise the God-given dignity of every person, to challenge injustice and to build a community in which everyone knows that they belong.

Proud to celebrate. Proud to learn. Proud to stand together.

Throughout October, Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy is proud to celebrate Black History Month — a time to recognise, celebrate and learn from the achievements, experiences and contributions of Black people in Britain and across the world.

As a Catholic community, we believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God, with equal dignity, value and worth.

This month gives us an important opportunity to listen, learn and celebrate — exploring the people, stories and achievements that have helped shape our communities, our country and our world.

At OLSC, our values of Respect, Truth, Justice, Peace, Charity and Forgiveness call us not simply to recognise injustice, but to be people who actively build a community where everyone belongs and everyone can flourish.

Is your child due to start at secondary school next year? Don't forget that the window to apply for a place for them is now open - and you have until the end of this month to complete yours at wolverhampton.gov.uk/admissions.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education said: “This is one of the most important decisions you can make for your child, so please don't miss the deadline. Ensuring applications are made by the end of October can increase the chances of securing a place at a preferred school.”

Anyone who needs support making their online application can attend School Application Surgeries being held at the Civic Centre, St Peter's Square, Wolverhampton, on either Thursday 15 October or 29 October 2026, from 10am-2pm. No appointment is necessary.

🌹 Happy Feast Day of St Thérèse of Lisieux – The Little Flower 🌹

Today, 1st October, we celebrate the feast of St Thérèse of Lisieux, also known as St Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face.

St Thérèse showed us that holiness does not always come through great or extraordinary acts. Through her “Little Way”, she taught that we can serve God through the small things we do each day — with great love, kindness, humility and trust. 💛

Her example reminds us at Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy that every small act of love matters: a kind word, helping someone in need, offering forgiveness, showing patience or simply choosing to put others before ourselves.

St Thérèse was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope St John Paul II in 1997 and is one of the patron saints of missions. 🌍🌹

May we follow her example and seek to bring Christ’s love to others through the ordinary moments of our day.

🙏 FEAST OF THE HOLY ARCHANGELS 🙏
St Michael • St Gabriel • St Raphael

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, the Archangels — powerful messengers and servants of God. ✝️

🛡️ St Michael – defender against evil, reminding us to stand courageously for what is right.

📖 St Gabriel – God’s messenger, who brought Mary the joyful news that she would become the Mother of Jesus.

💚 St Raphael – the healing companion, reminding us of God’s loving care and presence on our journey.

This feast has particular significance for our school community as part of St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Multi-Academy Trust. May St Gabriel inspire us to listen attentively to God’s call and to carry His message of hope, love and peace to others.

Holy Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, pray for us. 🙏

🙏 Feast of St Vincent de Paul 27 September

Today we celebrate St Vincent de Paul, a saint whose life was dedicated to serving Christ through caring for those most in need.

St Vincent reminds us that our faith is lived out through compassion, generosity and action, noticing those around us, offering help without judgement and recognising the dignity of every person.

His example speaks beautifully to our OLSC values, particularly Charity, Justice and Respect, and to our mission:

✨ “Together we will emulate the love of Christ and become the people God created us to be.”

May St Vincent inspire us to have kind hearts, to look beyond ourselves and to make a difference through the small acts of love and service we offer each day.
