Congratulations to A.M. Dassu who was named the winner of the 2023 Two Cities Book Award in yesterday’s ceremony at WGS. Her story of individuality, kindness and community, ‘Fight Back’, captured the hearts of young readers across Wolverhampton and Birmingham. 📖

The ceremony, attended by shortlisted authors Chris Vick and A.M. Dassu, brought together 150 younger readers from King Edward’s School, King Edward VI High School for Girls, WGS and Perton Middle School.

Also inspiring the audience were WGS Sixth Form student and 2023 BBC Young Reporter winner for the West Midlands, Luke, and 2022 – 2024 Birmingham Young Poet Laureate, Iona.

A huge thank you to our authors, visiting schools and to Authors Aloud UK and King Edward's School, Birmingham for helping to make it all happen. 😊

The literary adventure begins for our second group of Discover Reading Project families! 📖

Mrs Rowley and Mr McAllister recently welcomed their second group of families onto the Discover Reading Project, a transatlantic partnership brought about through links with OW, Dr Stephen Hegedus, Dean of Southern Conneticut State Univeristy. The project, now in its second year, aims to reinforce the importance of reading for young children of primary school age.

The celebratory event was also a chance to say goodbye to the inaugural group of children, who have made excellent progress in their reading skills over the past year! 👏

The evening was centred around the book ‘We're going on a Ghost Walk’ and there were lots of Halloween-themed activities and a chance to meet more animals, courtesy of the Animal Man!

We look forward to watching the children progress over the next year. 😊

We are looking forward to welcoming parents, students and industry partners to our first Apprenticeships Information Evening today! 😊

Today marks the beginning of UK Disability History Month. This year’s theme is Disability, Children and Youth.

Last week, we had the privilege of meeting Nath Fernandes, who delivered an inspiring and interactive session for our Year 7 students as part of their Wellbeing curriculum. Nath's session aimed to challenge perceptions and encourage positive change in how we think about impairment and disability at WGS.

Nath, who was born with Cerebral Palsy affecting his speech and limbs, has spent his life demonstrating that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible. He is an embodiment of resilience and a true inspiration to us all.

Thank you, Nath, for sharing your story and imparting valuable lessons to our students. 😊
