Wolverhampton Play Service will be marking National Play Day with a free event for all the family at Bantock Park today (Wednesday) from 11am-3pm. Children will be able to enjoy in den building, ball games, water play, obstacle courses and a range of arts and crafts.

The theme for this year’s Playday is playing on a shoestring – making every day an adventure. Councillor Chris Burden, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: "Play opportunities don’t need to involve expensive activities, costly toys or trips to far-off destinations. It is often the simplest ideas which offer the most fun, and are the most developmentally beneficial for children and young people.

"So whether you come along to Bantock Park or are doing something else, make this Playday, and every day, an adventure."

📚 Young bookworms are being encouraged to sign up to this year’s Summer Reading Challenge – and get active while developing a love of reading. This year's challenge is Ready, Set, Read!, in partnership with Youth Sport Trust.

Young readers can sign up at any of Wolverhampton's 16 libraries and get fun rewards while they read up to six books over the summer. All participants will be able to achieve bronze, silver or gold, with gold readers receiving a certificate and medal when they finish their challenge.

To support the challenge, there will also be a free programme of no less than 60 events across all libraries.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: "Reading not only helps children to develop their imagination but gives them essential skills for adulthood. We have been supporting the Summer Reading Challenge for well over a decade and it is always very popular with young bookworms and their families, so grab your packs and give it a go."
