π FEBRUARY AT LOLLIPOPS π
We visited childminding group where the children made Valentineβs crafts and explored Chinese New Year traditions, including themed activities and decorations. πππ§§π₯
We also visited Kingswood where the children explored the woods, made creations in the mud kitchen and visiting the sheep! π§±ππΆπ¦π
The children have really enjoyed building with the different shapes and sizes of the wooden blocks. They used their imagination to create a variety of structures and worked together to balance and stack the blocks in different ways. π§±π
They also enjoyed hammering golf tees into the polystyrene. We discussed how to handle the hammers safely and what they should be used for. This helped develop their handβeye coordination and fine motor skills. π¨π·

π JANUARY AT LOLLIPOPS π
Our focus story has been Handaβs Surprise and the children have shown a huge interest in it. Some of our little Lollipops can now recite the whole story which supports their early literacy skills through storytelling, repetition and recall. πβ¨ We also enjoyed trying some of the fruits from the story which sparked lots of wonderful language. The children used descriptive vocabulary such as slippy, sour and yummy!

We also talked about our Christmas holidays and looked at photos which gave the children opportunities to share their memories.

The children have enjoyed playing alongside one another using wooden blocks of different shapes and sizes to βbuild housesβ for the peg dolls. It was lovely to observe them differentiating between the various sizes, selecting appropriate blocks and problem solving as they built. We also observed some lovely sharing and communicating their ideas with each other.
π§±π¨π©π¦π₯π§ π§
We enjoyed making an obstacle course outside which encouraged the children to move carefully and safely around the different challenges. To extend their play, we introduced a stopwatch, allowing them to time one another and take turns on the bike. We heard some lovely mathematical language alongside lots of encouragement and support for their friends.

We visited our childminding group, where the children had lots of fun playing with the parachute, working together to build a huge tower and they enjoyed scrubbing and cleaning the toys!

Lots of mark making has been happening at Lollipops! Some of the children have enjoyed drawing and colouring rainbows, which not only sparked their creativity but also supported their learning of colours.

π DECEMBER AT LOLLIPOPS π
What a magical and festive December we had at Lollipops! We visited garden centres to look at all the twinkling lights and sparkly decorations, which the children absolutely loved. We had lots of fun at our childminding group Christmas party, where we met Santa, got creative with festive crafts and enjoyed celebrating with our friends. We also got the chance to feed rabbits and guinea pigs and the children showed lots of confidence and kindness with the animals.
Alexa kept us entertained by playing lots of Christmas music with a few requests for K-Pop Demon Hunters thrown in too π

π NOVEMBER AT LOLLIPOPS π
07/01/2026
If your child attends an early years setting (nursery, pre-school or childminder) and brings a packed lunch, you may have been asked to make sure itβs a healthy one.
Since September 2025, early years providers have been required to follow new DfE nutrition guidance β and this affects what can go into lunchboxes.
Read more in our blog on creating healthy packed lunches π

Itβs important that your childβs lunch is varied from day to day, especially if they have a packed lunch regularly.
