We are delighted to announce that Aaratreeka in Year 10 has been selected from hundreds of entries across the city to WIN the Christmas Card Competition held by Stuart Anderson MP! The beautiful hand painted design will now be made into a Christmas card and sent to many important people, including the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson! Congratulations, Aaratreeka. We are very proud of your creativity. #wolverhampton
Between Monday 29th Novemeber to Wednesday December 8th, we will be collecting items for the Good Shepherd Food Bank. We hope to be able to help those in need over the festive period. Items can be given to Student Support Leaders. Many thanks for your support! #foodbank #kindness
It is now Disability History Month and today we remember the achievements of Rosa May Billinghurst. As a child she survived polio, which left her unable to walk. She was a British Suffragette and women's rights activist. She even went to prison for protesting for equality but that didn't stop her! Finally, in 1918 some women were allowed to vote. We have Rosa May Billinghurst and women like her to thank for this important step in equal rights for all. #disabilityhistorymonth #history
More creative activities today in Health and Social Care. Today the students made play dough models based on obstacles that care users may face. This was then followed by keyword bingo! Well done, everyone! #healthandsocialcare #creativity
Big shout out to Ethan in 7Y1 who has surpassed expectations with his History home learning. Ethan only needed to pick a couple of tasks, but due to his love of the subject, he completed everything on the sheet! He has shown respect and integrity which are both Smestow Values. Ethan is a very keen young historian. Mrs Pinches is looking forward to helping him to develop his knowledge further. #History #year7

Congratulations to ex Smestow student, Jonathan Mibeko who last week Graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Business and Management from De Montfort University. Jonathan came to the UK in 2006 from the Congo following the sad passing of his mother.  Jonathan is visually impaired and when he arrived at Smestow he spoke very little English. Despite the challenges he has faced, Jonathan has truly excelled. We are incredibly proud of all of Jonathan's achievements. If you or someone you know is an ex Smestow student who would like to share their achievements and inspire young people, please get in touch at [email protected]
This month is Disability History Month and today we remember the accomplishments of Ben Purse. Ben was born in Salford in 1874 and lost his sight by the age of 13. He trained as a piano tuner but felt he didn't get the chances he deserved because of his disability. On 5th April 1920 he marched with hundreds of other people with visual impairments and campaigned for equal rights. He also spoke to the Prime Minister. This resulted in the first ever law in the whole world for equality in the workplace for people with disabilities. What an incredible achievement! #disabilityhistorymonth

Today we were very fortunate to be visited by Professor the Lord Norton of Louth, an English author, academic and serving peer in the House of Lords. Lord Norton met with students to teach them about the British Parliamentary system. Accompanying Lord Norton, was Mr Irving Anderson, who was once a student at Smestow, and now works at the House of Lords. Huge thanks to Lord Norton and Mr Anderson for a fascinating insight into the House of Lords. Well done to all of our students for their impeccable manners, behaviour and contributions. In the photo L-R are Lord Norton, Katie (Head Girl), Harvey (Head Boy) and ex Smestow student, Mr Anderson. A wonderful day! #BritishValues #respect
