Today is Good Friday which commemorates Jesus Christ's crucifixion. Christians observe the day by fasting and attending church services or re-enactments of Jesus Christ's last hours. Some Christians also eat fish!
Wishing everyone a Happy Passover. Called Pesach in Hebrew, Passover is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. It is traditional for Jewish families to eat a special dinner called Seder amongst other celebratory events. Revision: How to get organised Advice on how to get organised when studying for your exams.
Today was a very special day at Smestow Academy as work began on the creation of the Bearded Fig Tiny Forest in partnership with Severn Trent Water. Smestow Academy was selected as one of the locations for a commemorative forest to mark the Commonwealth Games. The forest will include the planting of over 600 trees and creation of 2 outdoor classrooms. Mrs Fellows, who has organised the event, would like to thank the students involved for their hard work and enthusiasm. Well done, everyone! Thank you to @severntrent for their huge contribution and guidance. We look forward to the forest being enjoyed for many years to come.

Ramadan Mubarak! Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation. Fasting is considered to be an act of worship, which enables Muslims to feel closer to God and strengthen their spiritual health and self-discipline. Muslims fast during daylight hours. 🌙
April is Stress Awareness Month. We all have many demands upon us and it is important to take time out for our wellbeing. During Building People, our students learn techniques to manage stress effectively. We hope everyone has time this weekend to relax and refresh.

Back in November, despite Covid restrictions and difficulties, the students at Smestow Academy pulled together and raised £340 for Children in Need. We couldn't be more thankful and proud of everyone who donated and helped. Today we received this lovely certificate and letter. Well done, everyone! @bbccin

Well done to our football stars Keiyon in Year 9 and Myles in Year 8 who both scored hat tricks this week! Keiyon was named Man of the Match after a 4-1 victory against @aldersley_high_school and Myles was delighted to score 3 goals in a match that ended in a 5-1 victory against @wolverhamptongrammarschool Well done to everyone who played including our fantastic competitors.
This term Year 8 have been learning about pilgrimages in Religious Studies. This lesson about Jerusalem included an activity in which students could write prayers, dedications or wishes in a similar way to which Jewish people do when they visit the Western Wall.
During our Building People lessons all of our students are taught about physical and mental health. This term Year 11 have been visited by our School Nurse, who discussed testicular and breast cancer awareness. Huge thank you to the school nurse service.
