Coshh and Manual Handling training. Well done to the Nursery staff for giving up your Saturday

YMCA Black Country Group runs a wide range of different services across an increasing number of sites across the Black Country. These include family support and childcare; fitness and wellbeing; supported housing and community services.

YMCA is the largest and oldest charity working with young people (and their communities) in the world. YMCA Black Country Group is an independent local charity, affiliated to the wider YMCA Federation in England & Wales, and the global YMCA family. Across the Black Country and border areas there are thousands of young people who need our help. We do this by providing a broad range of services. We don’t just think ‘youth’ we also think ‘community’ and our work extends to include people of all ages, faiths, cultures and backgrounds.

Operating as usual

Happy International Day of Families. The right start in life is crucial for the long-term development of a young person. At YMCA we create a family culture for every young person we serve because we know family is one of life’s strongest pillars.

We're currently recruiting inspiring people to join our nursery team, who know the value of a strong start in those early years. If that sounds like you, please visit ymcabc.org.uk/nurseryjobs to learn more and apply today.

Ys Girls Mixer - YMCA Black Country Group

Last week, our Y's Girls Mentors and Mentees got together to meet each other and introduce themselves and the project to new referrals. Two of our mentors put on a demonstration on how to make fragranced body butter. It was a great opportunity to break down barriers and give the participants a chance to discuss their experiences on the project.

This June, for the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations, people across the country will be celebrating with street parties bringing together friends, family and neighbours...
...And we don't want it to be any different here at The Glebe Centre. We have an ever growing community of service users and with your help and donations, we hope to throw them their very own party to remember and celebrate the last 70 years!

We are planning lots of fun activities in the lead up to the big day, and then a day to remember with music, queenie quiz, food and games, but we need your help in making sure that these are the best they can be.

We are asking for donations of the following to help make it an extra special day:

-Fabric Pens or Fabric paints
- CLEAN (please please!) White pillow cases OR Red, white and blue Coloured/Patterned squares of fabric for crafting (for making our own bunting
- Self adhesive Gems, Jewels and decorations (For crown making)
- Cupcake decorating eg Icing sugar, sugarcrafts, fun shaped cutters, edible decorations etc
- Games/Vintage games (We are making our own skittle alley but would love to have some nostalgic games for some of our older service members)
- Musical/Percussion instruments
- Party food! Must be in date and pre wrapped/Individually wrapped sweet treats, nibbles and snacks (for our buffet. Symone the cook says please no sausage rolls as we have some 😋)
-Traditional Cake/Afternoon Tea Display stands (If anyone has these, even if just to loan, for our Jubilee party we would be ever so grateful and think it would add an extra fine touch to our service user's afternoon tea buffet!)

We are open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm. The party is planned for Weds the 1st June so please make sure to bring donations in asap before then.

Thankyou in advance and wishing you and your families your own excellent celebration, whatever you are planning 🥳

A big THANK YOU to Terry Goodwin, a local volunteer who has been giving up his time once again to transform the front room at YMCA Highland Road, Dudley. Working with residents to share some ideas, they decided that they wanted a Training Room that was inspirational. As life at Highland Road is all about a journey to independence, Terry created a train track with stations that reflected that passage such as “Budgeting Bridge” and “Daunting Departures”. He also added a post it note wall, with motivational quotes which residents can add to. The first draft of the new weekly timetable saw a good turnout from our young people. We'd also like to wish Terry a 'happy birthday' who recently turned 75!

Residents living in our Housing Projects across the whole of the Black Country group completed feedback forms on the support and service they receive. All those who completed the forms had their names drawn out of a hat, and Callum Walker from Green Lane Project in Walsall was drawn out and received a £50 voucher. Here is Callum receiving his voucher from Housing Manager Lynne.
