Calling Young Composers! On Sunday 19th November 10am-6pm, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Creative Composing Lab (CCL) are running workshops for young people in school years 10-13.

Held at CBSO Centre in Birmingham, this term’s workshop is themed around composing for voice, and students will compose music for a trio of voice, flute and harp. The workshop might be useful for students studying GCSE, BTEC or A-level music, but is open to anyone who loves creating new music, although participants would need some notation skills. The workshops are FREE and are a fantastic opportunity for young people to get support in creating their own music and meeting like-minded young musicians. If they are a budding rockstar, we have Rock and Pop groups for primary and secondary aged children at Music School on Wednesdays. We also have New Strings, our intermediate string group, Guitar Ensemble rehearsals and a Music Production course. Come along in September to find out more.

We have FREE music groups for a range of instruments and ages. As soon as your child can read and play 5 notes on their instrument, there is a group for them to join. Tuesday rehearsals are for Fusion 5s (any instrument), Keyboard Ensemble, Youth Choir and our Inclusive Music sessions led by Big Top SEND practitioners. Come along and see what all the noise is about!

Our teachers are at the Music School this week for training and getting ready to go back into schools next week. We're looking forward to starting back with our 15 bands and ensembles next week (from 11th September).

20/08/2023

Less than two weeks to go before we begin our ride. We are as ready as we can be. We have collected or have pledges for around £500 at the moment. I think that may rise as the days go by, but if not that is fine as well. We have overcome some difficulties along the way, a lack of accommodation in Scotland meant a change of route, finding a carrier to take our tandem to JOG, major dental work for me and several months of route planning. We leave John O'Groats on 1st September, arriving home for one night on the 9th, then a further 5 days should see us at Land's End. At least that is the plan.

Last night’s concert was really well received. We’ll post some highlights soon. Weather is great and today we’ve been to Mantua where Mozart played as a young 14 year old. Now off to our second concert venue for some rehearsal and the big show at 9pm.

It’s been action packed today. Verona amphitheatre and rain! But the sun has come out, lunch has been eaten and we’re off to rehearse for our first concert.
