Calling Young Composers! On Sunday 19th November 10am-6pm, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Creative Composing Lab (CCL) are running workshops for young people in school years 10-13.
Held at CBSO Centre in Birmingham, this term’s workshop is themed around composing for voice, and students will compose music for a trio of voice, flute and harp. The workshop might be useful for students studying GCSE, BTEC or A-level music, but is open to anyone who loves creating new music, although participants would need some notation skills. The workshops are FREE and are a fantastic opportunity for young people to get support in creating their own music and meeting like-minded young musicians. Less than two weeks to go before we begin our ride. We are as ready as we can be. We have collected or have pledges for around £500 at the moment. I think that may rise as the days go by, but if not that is fine as well. We have overcome some difficulties along the way, a lack of accommodation in Scotland meant a change of route, finding a carrier to take our tandem to JOG, major dental work for me and several months of route planning. We leave John O'Groats on 1st September, arriving home for one night on the 9th, then a further 5 days should see us at Land's End. At least that is the plan.
