Researchers at the University of Science and Technology of China have developed a soft robotic finger with an advanced sense of touch, capable of performing routine medical exams such as taking a pulse and detecting abnormal lumps. Published in Cell Reports Physical Science, this innovation holds potential for improving early disease detection, including breast cancer, by making physical exams less invasive. The soft robotics technology mimics human touch and could revolutionize healthcare, especially in underserved areas, with the possibility of integrating machine learning to create "Robodoctors" for automatic examination and diagnosis.
