LUNCH
I've been really conscious about brain health. I'm actually fascinated by it. I've generally been making lots of healthy changes to diet and physical health.
I talk to children about what certain ingredients do for their bodies. I leave it up to them to give it a try!
They LOVED this today - even gave the lettuce a lick ๐คฃ

YOGA
Yoga has undoubtedly been a massive part of my life - most intensely over the last year - it has been so powerful in all aspects of my personal development.
There are so many benefits for children doing yoga so I've introduced it in my curriculum-
Improved balance, strength, endurance, and flexibility are all skills that children can gain. Aside from physical health benefits, yoga can also have a huge impact on mindfulness and mental health.
As a childminder its not as easy to Introduce a routine as i have a mixed age group. I've made it super relaxed and am just focusing on letting them explore movement and breathing exercises. Today I put on a special yoga playlist and we focused on one pose this week -
Downward Facing Dog is often the first yoga pose that children learn!
It has the ability to be both a calming and energizing pose, and helps to get our blood flowing and recenter our focus

Flap books are a firm favourite here....
Our group time...
- it's a time to come together and explore each others likes and dislikes, get to know each other, turn take, a time to talk explore and learn new language- just to stop and be together.
All 3 children are different ages!
We introduce new rules through play and moments like this. The children all have a different level of understanding but this really helps them learn about each others needs and feelings.
They got the hang of each having a turn to open the flaps....

Childcare Choices What support could you get?
Learning through play ....
PLANNING ACTIVITIES
I don't really like topics... it's unlikely that at the time of introducing a topic children will be interested in it.
I tend to do a bit of both so children can learn about important celebrations and events.
I implement in the moment planning where I plan invitations and Provocations to support their learning.
If they are not interested they won't learn- they just won't engage or join in...
What's the point of spending hours planning things that doesn't motivate them to learn.
As a childminder I have mixed ages.. so how do I plan activities to suit them all??
Today I set this up with one of the children being interested in cooking /potion making
and the other being fascinated with scissors and how they cut. Dough is great to use with scissor practice. I also provided herbs and spices, rolling pins, knives and chopping boards.
They spent over an hour here sharing ideas and exploring various ways to manipulate the dough.
The concentration on their faces ๐

THE MAGIC
Sometimes children just don't need pretty set ups and hours of planning...
-Being present In their company, -listening to their ideas
- offering the resources they need to explore their ideas
= serious magic in learning...
We don't always need to be talking to teach
-Their silence speaks so many words
They asked me for all these resources and picked their own from the โป๏ธ recycling box..
our garden is full of plants and flowers which they loved exploring..
We talked about names, shapes , colours of these whilst picking them
They explored measures through filling their containers with water using vocabulary related to weight, quantity such as heavy ,light, more, less
Explored mixing, cutting ... developing their fine motor
45 mins of developing ideas and meaningful play experiences ๐ผ ๐ธ

a little tweak but such a massive impact...
Thank you . Co-Regulation (using our calm to de-activate our children's nervous system) precedes self-regulation in children. And we cannot co-regulate our children if we are in a state of dysregulation.

Benefits of mixed age groups ...
'Dr. Montessori was a scientist. She considered her method to be a scientific approach to education; one based on observation, implementation, and revision. She was constantly looking for cause and effect, adjusting her responses, and learning from her mistakes and, most importantly, from the children.
Dr. Montessori recognised very early on that the mixed-age classroom had a number of benefits and applied thi information to her method moving forward. She observed that children learn in different ways and that a mixed-age grouping was a critical component in this learning.
She noted that children learn through:
โข Observation: Younger children learn by watching older children as well as adults. In a mixed-age classroom, older children who are completing challenging lessons are an example to the younger children; they show what is possible.
โข Practice: In a mixed-age classroom, children stay with the same teacher for a few years, giving them plenty of time to repeat lessons, practice skills, and advance at their own pace; they are not rushed.
โข Teaching: Older children are viewed as role models in the Montessori classroom. They teach by example and it is not uncommon to see a five or six-year-old sitting with a three-year-old and giving them a lesson! In teaching something to a younger child, an older student deepens their own understanding of the lesson. In teaching, we learn.
