This week Year 3 had their first school trip of the year, to Lapworth Museum! It was so exciting to see all the amazing artefacts at the museum that related to our geography and science topics. We got to participate in lots of fun activities too such as a volcano workshop and an earthquake experience, we even saw an Allosaurus named Rory!
Year 1 have been learning all about the Great Fire of London. We made replica houses and set them alight. We spoke about how the fire spread and linked it to our learning about how the fire spread quickly and why the people used fire hooks to pull down the houses to help stop the fire.
Happy 2sDay!
This week, year four launched their new geography topic Misty Mountain Winding River! We spent the day taking part in activities linked to our new topic which we were all VERY excited about. We walked into our raindrop covered floor and dived into creating a glossary for our new topic. After this, we created mountains using paper mache. We also took part in drawing, in art, and created landscape sketches using the effect of "perspective" and the children produced some beautiful work. Well done year four, I cannot wait for you to start learning about the wonderful mountains and rivers of the world! ⛰🏔🗻🌄💧💦☔️
Today was Year 6's launch day into their new learning adventure topic- Frozen Kingdom. Throughout the day, the children completed a range of exciting challenges linked to their pre-existing knowledge of the polar regions, which required them to use key skills such as teamwork, leadership and creativity. Some of the challenges they took on included packing a survival kit for an Antarctic expedition; building a base camp; researching and presenting information about Antarctic wildlife; investigating how blubber works in a practical science experiment; building marshmallow igloos and creating oil pastel landscapes of the Northern lights. We really have had a brilliant day all round and cannot wait to start our new adventure!
Happy New Year from Year 5! When we came back to school, we designed and created rockets linking to our space topic. We brainstormed; looked at ideas; created a design criteria and designed our rocket. We finally created our rockets using bottles and cardboard along with other materials! What a blast!!!! Super job Year 5.
Today Year 1 held a Royal Tea Party to launch our new topic 'Bright Lights, Big City'. We dressed in our best clothes, used our good manners, bowed/ curtsied to the Queen, ate some yummy food and drank 'Royal punch'. We finished with some dancing. We had a lovely time!
Year 2 have had an exciting afternoon creating 'shoe-box habitats' during their science lesson. They have been learning about the climate and environment of different global habitats, and the different living things that call it home!
On Friday, children from Years 1 to 6 enjoyed a trip to the Grand Theatre to watch Cinderella- the pantomime! The children had a brilliant time and it was amazing to watch them buzz with excitement when the curtains first opened! Throughout the pantomime, the children chanted, sung and danced along with the actors on stage with, beaming smiles on their faces. What a brilliant end to our first week back at school!
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone! 🎄
Today, we celebrated the excellent behavior across the school by inviting pupils, with the highest amount of dojo's, from each class to attend a dojo party. It was fantastic to see the children with gleaming smiles on their faces as they enjoyed decorating gingerbread men; drinking luxurious hot chocolates and playing games and dancing with their friends. We are very proud of all the children for demonstrating such positive behaviors consistently this term- what fantastic role models they are!
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 2 have been working on a project called 'Let's Explore the World' where they have been learning about continents, oceans and climate zones.
We have also studied the United Kingdom closely, to find out about the features and characteristics of the four countries in the UK!
We have used atlases, maps with keys and compass directions to become super geographers!
