Globalisation and new technologies are rapidly changing the world of work for professionals, and for some this leads to feelings of insecurity, for others it may lead to redundancy. At the same time WE change at midlife. The psychiatrist Carl Jung documented the ‘midlife crisis’. As you move into the second half of your life, you may find yourself reflecting on your path to date, or questioning your roles, and what you’ve achieved so far. You may find your interests and values are changing. You may also find that your professional career ‘no longer fits’ as well as it used to. Ultimately, you may decide you want to change your career or reinvent it. But wanting to make changes to a professional career and making those changes happen are two different things! Despite niggles about your current role, there are probably factors that ‘bind’ you to it; a feeling of security or perhaps your good salary, or the familiarity of your role and your team.
