Parents often seek out a tutor when their child is finding a particular subject challenging or because they need extra support in a specific area. It’s common for children to view this as a sign of weakness or to feel like they’re “rubbish” at the topic. In my sessions, I work hard to change that mindset by consistently using positive, encouraging language and placing a strong emphasis on what the child is doing well. ✨ How I assess at Miss B Tutoring ✨

Assessing a child’s needs is so important as it gives me a deeper understanding of what I can do to help.

At Miss B Tutoring, I begin by carefully assessing each child’s individual needs through a combination of conversation, observation and diagnostic activities.

I take time to understand their strengths, challenges, learning style, and confidence levels. It’s always interesting to hear what a child thinks they are good at and what they might need some support with.

It’s also important for me to talk through any relevant information with the parent/guardian regarding assessment/reports from school as this helps personalise my approach and ensures that every session is tailored to support the child’s unique learning journey.

“Where minds grow strong and confidence grows too!”

But what does that really mean?

It means that tutoring isn’t just about getting the right answers — it’s about developing strong thinking skills, building a love for learning, and most importantly, growing a child’s confidence from the inside out.

When children feel supported, encouraged, and celebrated for their effort (not just their results), something magical happens — they start to believe in themselves. They take on challenges. They bounce back from mistakes. And they begin to feel proud of their progress, no matter how big or small!

Hi all and welcome to my tutoring page! I thought I would do a post that introduced myself if you are to come across my page 😊

✨ I have nearly 8 years experience working in primary schools, including 5 years teaching between the ages of 7-11 and 2 years working 1-1 with children with Special Educational Needs and Disablitied (SEND)
✨ I also have an additional qualification in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
✨ I have a degree in Children’s Development and Learning and a PGCE
✨ I started tutoring earlier this year and found a love for it! I enjoy working one to one with children- being able to support them academically and see their confidence grow is very rewarding!
✨ I have experience teaching across the entire primary curriculum, so if you would like tutoring in science, geography, history etc… then I would be more than happy to have a conversation about it!
