When should students start GCSE revision — Year 10 or Year 11?

This is one of the most common questions I get from parents.

The truth?

It’s not about choosing one year over the other. It’s about how revision evolves over time.

Year 10 is for building habits

This is where students should:

✅ Review topics as they go
✅ Fill Knowledge Gaps
✅ Create notes and flashcards
✅ Strengthen core skills

Year 11 is for exam performance.

This is where things step up:

✅ Structured revision plans
✅ Regular past paper practice
✅ Focus on exam technique

By this stage, students shouldn’t be learning everything from scratch — they should be refining and applying.

The students who struggle most in Year 11 are often the ones who:
→ Did little in Year 10
→ Tried to “catch up” too late
→ Relied on cramming instead of consistency

It’s not about doing more — it’s about doing the right things at the right time.

AI tools like ChatGPT are now widely used by students for GCSE revision.

They can be incredibly helpful… but they also come with risks that are often overlooked.

Here are 5 key ones parents should be aware of:

❌ Incorrect answers – AI can sound confident but still be wrong
❌ Over-reliance – students stop thinking independently
❌ Passive learning – reading instead of actively revising
❌ Weak exam technique – lack of timed practice and structure
❌ False confidence – students think they understand, but can’t apply it

The important thing to remember is this:

✅ AI is not the issue.
