Sorry learners, driving tests are NOT going to be scrapped to get through massive Covid backlog - and here's why Driving tests have been significantly disrupted once again during the latest lockdown, with lessons and all theory and practical tests suspended.

Unfortunately due to tier 5 we are postponing lessons for now.

Petition: Driving instructor guidance for lessons/tests during the coronavirus pandemic. Driving instructors and their pupils need complete clarity on how and when we can resume driving lessons due to the inability to ever adhere to 2m social distancing rule. We are mostly self employed and need to know precisely when and how we can teach again. Our industry has never had a mention.

We're still awaiting an update from the DVSA regarding resuming driving lessons.
However we are still open for enquiries and can take pre - bookings in preparation for when things resume.

Where have the DVSA gone? "ADIs4ADIs" *"Independent ADI & PDI home*". An entirely independent body run by members for its members is what we are all about with no strings attached.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE.

Update regarding resuming driving lessons.

Due to social distancing restrictions, driving lessons across the country have ground to a halt, as it is impossible ever to social distance in a car.

Driving schools and instructors have been following advice and guidance, not only from the government, but from governing/regulating bodies.
These include organisations such as the DVSA, DIA and NASP who are all working in partnership with eachother to provide a solution on how to resume driving lessons safely.
At this moment in time, the advice is that driving lessons are limited to key/essential workers.

Unfortunately other than this advice, the information is vague to say the least and there is a lack of clarity from the DVSA this current time.
However we would hope that by the beginning of June we will have a better idea where we stand in terms of lessons resuming.

There is the assumption that driving lessons would come under "phase 3* of the government plan, however we do stress that this has not been confirmed by anyone and driving tests are currently set to resume from 22nd June.

That being said, when lessons do resume, GSI will ensure that measures are in place to make it as safe as possible to learn to drive.
This will involve alcohol rub (where available) and antiviral/bacterial wipes to clean all surfaces of the car between lessons and windows open if needed.

If students do choose to wear mask and gloves, this is of course absolutely fine, providing it doesn't interfere with communication between the instructor and learner or the ability to handle the car or restrict vision in any way.
Most importantly, if any student.has symptoms of coronavirus, the instructor must be informed immediately prior to any lesson.

As always, there is only the instructor and the learner in the car at any one time, which can be taken as a positive, as it does lower the risk unlike other industries such as hair salons where social distancing is a problem and there are multiple people together in close contact at one time.

Absolutely fantastic result today as Dr Jamal Dirie passed his driving test under the DVSAs emergency test scheme for key workers.

Now he has his licence, we hope this will help him in his essential travel to and from work at the Royal Surrey Hospital

Wishing him all the best on the NHS front line and a huge thankyou for your continued fight against the coronavirus and keeping us all safe.

Congratulations to Keanu who passed first time with us today.
Working as a carer at a care home, we are delighted that he was able to take his test to help him with his vital key worker role.

Do you need a licence that is essential for your work? If so, GSI driving school can help you.

Due to the ongoing crisis, essential travel for key workers has been affected by lost car shares, reduced public transport, less taxis and many workers have had their lessons suspended and tests cancelled.
This can severely affect key workers ability to travel to work, aquire more shifts etc

Therefore under Government guidelines, essential/key workers are still eligible for driving lessons and can book emergency theory/driving tests.

As I'm sure people are aware, driving lessons and tests are not being conducted during the coronavirus pandemic.

However there is an exemption for key workers who need a licence, therefore emergency tests can be requested via the DVSA website.

***Important message for everyone learning with at GSI including future students and enquiries***

I'm sure everyone is aware of the situation and the government statement last night from Boris Johnson.
It doesn't come as a shock that the government have now locked down all but essential movement.

Unfortunately due to the social distancing required and the nature of driving lessons being in close proximity to eachother, we have had to make the unfortunate decision to temporarily suspended lessons for everyone's safety.

The government review will be taking place in 3 weeks time and so hopefully we may be in a better position to re-asses the situation and get back up and running asap, but of course things are subject to change.

We at GSI want to say thank you to all of you who have supported us throughout this, and we will do our best to do what ever we can to get everyone through their tests!!
All of our current students day/times slots for lessons will be here for you when we resume.
