This week in school we remember the Way of the Cross, and because Holy Week falls during the Easter break, also reflect and respond to Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the last supper with His disciples on Maundy Thursday, His death on Good Friday and His resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday.

Awareness is this week’s theme. Being aware of our surroundings helps us value them and be grateful for them. Being aware of others helps us meet their needs. Being self-aware helps us see ourselves clearly – our strengths and our weaknesses. Jesus was self-aware and as a result, confident, not arrogant, in his focus, his answers and his calling.

We’re supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week, 21-27 March 2022. Neurodiversity Celebration Week serves as a reminder that no matter what our differences and challenges, everyone also has their own strengths and talents. Many people who have ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia and Tourette Syndrome and struggled in school, are now very successful, and many attribute their success to their unique way of thinking and perceiving the world around them. Fairness, this week’s theme, is important if we are going to balance out injustice. Life isn’t fair but we can play our part in making it as fair as possible for those with whom we come into contact.
Jesus went out of his way to include those who were unfairly excluded. He welcomed those that were considered sinners and mixed with those considered outcasts. Ultimately Jesus laid down His life for others who didn‘t deserve His sacrifice and in this way He was ‘more than fair’.

We began our year welcoming Canon Rob Esdaile who said Mass for us reminding us how St John the Baptist is a great role model. Our Sixth Formers then continued the tradition of distributing to local neighbours flowers brought in by Year 7 students.

This week’s theme is trust. People trusted Jesus as he demonstrated by his actions that he loved and accepted everyone regardless of race, creed or background.

Togetherness is often only achieved if we understand, accept and appreciate each other. What unites us is greater than what divides us and so we need to look and find common understanding, practise forgiveness and value what others are dealing with and going through.

We are deeply saddened by the death of the Queen - our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they grieve the loss of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

A truly inspirational woman who dedicated her life to serving our nation and its people. Graceful. Calm. Stoic. Resilient. Wise. Humble. Full of integrity.

In the words of Paddington Bear “Thank you Ma’am for everything” May you rest in peace 💔

We can't wait to welcome our whole school community back tomorrow for a new school year!

Please come to school with all your equipment, perfect uniform and a positive approach to
learning!

06/09/2022

Some of us will have had good summers and others of us, not so good. But we are all in the same boat, with the opportunity that a new school year brings, of a new beginning. God is able to help us and guide us; there for us in the happy times and there for us in the storms.

Congratulations to our wonderful Year 11s who received their GCSE results today. You worked incredibly hard and absolutely smashed it! We couldn’t be more proud 😊 We look forward to seeing you all back in the Sixth Form in September.

We are so incredibly proud of all our Year 13s who received fantastic results today! Such a wonderful bunch of young people with big dreams, many of which were realised today!

To Year 13 - Go out and grab the big wide world with two hands and remember to live a life of no regrets - live passionately, love generously and learn constantly.

Don’t be strangers, you’re always welcome back at SJB!

One week on… this incredible team are nursing their sore legs and enjoying a well earned rest having cycled 1005 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End all in aid of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in memory of one man, Nick Windsor. Their achievement is just sinking in and they’ve posted their “one week on” reflections on the blog - we could not be more proud or more in awe of this amazing team!! 🚴‍♂️

PS - there is still time to donate 😉

DAY 12 - we’re at Land’s End, we made it!!

To all our supporters, thank you all massively for your kindness and generosity. This has been such a challenge, both physical and mental, but whenever we needed to dig deep we just needed to remind ourselves of your words of support, the cause we’re riding for and the man who is our inspiration - our friend, Nick Windsor.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our Just Giving page - you’ve smashed our target and as things currently stand we’ve just over £32,000, all for Nick’s chosen cause, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. If you haven’t donated yet then it’s not too late!

We’re all off now to spend time with our loved ones, to let the bruises heal and regale everyone with stories of epic ascents and swooshing descents, the beauty of so much of Great Britain, and the exhilaration of completing what has been a once-in-lifetime challenge for us all.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us. With all our love,

Becks, Tom, Vicky, Ev, Emily, Matt, Jon, James, Lewis, Damien, Kate, Sam, Faith, Becky, Sophia and Dan.

DAY 11… the toughest day of the ride. Hills. hills and more hills. And bike troubles - Mr Walker’s bike broke big time (rear free hub gone so no power) leaving him up a hill miles from Wadebridge needing a new bike 😱 Miss Dolan came to the rescue with the bike Mr Bannon left on the minibus , only to find that was broken too!! Less broken thankfully - a quick trip to a local repair man got it fixed! 🙌🏼 One of several bike issues today but they’ve only got ONE MORE DAY in the saddle to go!!! 🎉 Oh and the support crew washed their last pants of the trip!! 🩲🥳

Please sponsor the crew if you can and make their pain and suffering all the more worthwhile! All money these awesome people are pedalling for is going to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in memory of the equally wonderful Mr Windsor ❤️ link below 🚴‍♂️

DAY 10 - the team cruised into Devon for the final stretch of their journey. Having smashed the £30K mark the huge hills were a breeze (kind of! 🤣) and they even found time to cool off in the river! We’re so incredibly proud of each and every one of them!

If you’re following their story and know any past or present SJBers who might just be able to spare a few pounds to sponsor them then please share our link. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity will receive every penny and it’s all in honour or Mr Windsor ❤️ 🚴‍♂️ link below

DAY 10 - WOOHOO!! 🎉🥂🍾❤️ Before a single foot hit a pedal this morning we broke the £30K mark!! 🙌🏼 We could not have done it without you all - thank you so much!!! It makes all the rain, hills, punctures, chafing and achy legs worthwhile. They’ve still got 2 DAYS TO GO so let’s see how high we can push the total for @royalmarsden and Mr Windsor. Link in bio for anyone who can spare a few pounds for a great cause! 🚴‍♂️

Photos from St John the Baptist School, Woking's post 31/07/2022

DAY 9… only 3 more to go!! 🎉 Spirits were high today as the riders cruised into Bristol. Mr Witts made a surprise appearance en route which helped lift the mood! A few more punctures and a few big hills was nothing today… the carvery dinner they’d booked selling out of everything except turkey 😱So they opted for Deliveroo instead!! If you can afford a pint or a gin for this motley crew then every penny is going to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity - can we break the £30K mark before breakfast?! Link below 🚴‍♂️

DAY 8… so much better today for all the friendly faces en route!

Mr Newman’s girls joined the team for a few miles, Miss Shepherd’s fiancé cheered them along, Ruth Egan our Chair of Govs and her husband Mike and Miss Shelton’s Dad… not to mention Ben and Jake Downie who surprised them with the best banner yet!

… and the bruise belongs to Mr Ali and is the result of a fall 3 days ago - ouch!!

🚴‍♂️ are so unbelievably grateful for their support and for all your support through the likes and messages. They could not do it without you! 🙌🏼

If you haven’t yet sponsored them then please do. All funds are going to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in memory of the legend that was Mr Windsor ❤️

DAY 7… the longest day so far. Traffic and lots of it on all the A roads and a fair few events en route…

Puncture that even Mr Newman couldn’t fix - bike shop no 1 🧑‍🔧

Hacker had a big stack but bounced backup, his bike did not - bike shop no 2 🧑‍🔧 Lots of bruises 🤕

Mr Young’s chain broke but he limped on to the end with broken bike and Miss Shepherd’s shoes broke - bike shop no 3 🧑‍🔧

Lots of traffic, roundabout navigation and … so all in all a fun day!! But in the plus side, there’s now only 5 days in the saddle left and they’ve broken the £28K mark with the fundraising!!

Meanwhile the support crew shuffled along the M6 in the minibuses at a snails pace stuck in more traffic than you’ve ever seen. Not fun!

Mr Newman clearly deserves a shout out for the bucket loads of patience, love, expertise, and care that he’s shown the rest of 🚴‍♂️today as many of them had to dig the deepest they’ve ever dug before!! ❤️🙌🏼

If you haven’t sponsored them yet and you can afford to spare a few quid then please do it’s all for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity link below

DAY 6… What a corker! Half way there and made it back south of the border 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Lots of fun and smiles today as they cruised into the Lake District with a bit of an obstacle course part way due to an unexpected road closure! 🚴‍♂️ were in high spirits as they finished the day, knowing the countdown is now on!

If you have a fiver to spare the why not sponsor them on their way - link below

DAY 5… today would have been Mr Windsor’s 46th birthday so tonight they raised a glass to him! 🥂 It was the longest day so far for the cyclists with over 150km in the saddle.

🚴‍♂️ are doing so well - we are incredibly proud of them!! Instead of raising a glass to Mr Windsor why not donate to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity via the link below and show all the cyclists your support.

DAY 4 - so much better than yesterday!! 😁 Beautiful views around Loch Lomond with some even managing a chilly dip en route 🏊🏼‍♀️They even had a fly past from 4 typhoon fighter jets this morning!! ✈️

They are now a third of the way there and we could not be more proud of them all 🙌🏼 🚴

If you’re heading out this evening why not buy them a pint by donating to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity on their just giving page below

DAY 3… the day came with a fair few challenges!! The route planner of the trip sent them on a shocker today… 2 punctures, chain off, cleat stuck so Miss Shepherd couldn’t take her shoe out. Kind bike shop man helped them! Got soaked in first 5 mins… it continued for 1h and half. 30k of ‘off road’ (they’re on road bikes 🚴) Missed the ferry. Had lunch sitting on the pavement like homeless people (very wet) Then….. a very kind man took them on the ferry. Beautiful last 40K (thank goodness!!)

The speedy group had a siesta (Mr Walker got a lot of stick!) The rest of them took 9hs 25 mins to get to the end point. Long long day!!

🚴‍♂️

If you haven’t sponsored them yet then please do, the The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity will benefit from every penny. Mr Windsor was clearly willing them onwards today!! ❤️
