They don't need to see you get everything right.

They can see you try.

They can see you struggle with something.

They can see you practise.

They can see you improve.

That's a powerful lesson.

Judo gives adults plenty of opportunities to do exactly that.

You learn new movements, develop coordination and balance, improve your fitness and gradually become more confident in situations that once felt unfamiliar.

And every little improvement reminds you that progress doesn't have an age limit.

If you'd like your children to see you take on something new, come and try Judo.

WHAT YOUR CHILD SEES:

“A game.”

WHAT AN EXPERIENCED JUDO COACH SEES:

A child learning to change direction without losing their balance.

A child reacting to somebody else’s movement.

A child discovering how to create an opportunity instead of waiting to be told what to do.

A child learning to control their strength so their training partner stays safe.

A child failing, adapting and trying again—without becoming afraid of getting it wrong.

That is why our games have rules, targets and carefully designed challenges.

They’re not added to fill time.

They are part of how we teach.

We still demonstrate techniques. We still correct details. We still practise and repeat movements.

But judo doesn’t happen against somebody who stands perfectly still.

A judoka must learn to notice, decide and adapt.

*To the child, it feels like play.*

*To the coach, it’s skill development.*

Serious coaching doesn’t always have to look serious—and your child shouldn’t have to stop enjoying themselves to make genuine progress.

Would you like your child to experience it?

Message us the word *TRIAL*, and we’ll help you find the right class.

Our current Back to School offer includes a *free trial class plus ÂŁ100 off the enrolment fee when you join.*

A DAD DECIDED NOT TO JOIN OUR JUDO CLUB.

His reason?

There was too much playing—and we weren’t enough of a “fighting club”.

It might seem strange to share that when we’re trying to encourage families to join us.

But here’s the truth:

*He was right about what he saw.*

The children were laughing. They were playing games. Nobody was drilling dangerous techniques or being pushed through a miniature fight camp.

But he was wrong about what it meant.

Inside those games, our coaches were developing:

đŸ„‹ Balance and coordination
đŸ„‹ Reactions and body awareness
đŸ„‹ Safe falling skills
đŸ„‹ Timing and decision-making
đŸ„‹ Confidence and self-control

The children thought they were playing.

The coaches knew they were learning.

*The game wasn’t a break from the learning. The learning was inside the game.*

I’ve written a new article explaining why excellent children’s judo can look like play—and why that approach can build safer, more skilful and more motivated judoka.

Some camps end with a goodbye.

This one ends with:

"Can we come again?"

We think that's probably the best review we could ask for.

See you next time, campers!

A Fighting Fitness Judoka NOTICES.

They notice the new pupil hovering at the edge of the playground.

The classmate pretending they don’t mind sitting alone.

The person who has gone unusually quiet.

The child who doesn’t know the rules of the game but is too nervous to ask.

And then they do something.

They move over.

They say hello.

They explain the game.

They invite someone in.

Or, when the situation needs more help, they speak to a trusted adult.

Because judo isn’t about learning to be stronger than other people.

It’s about learning what to do with your strength.

Real confidence doesn’t need to dominate a room.
Real leadership doesn’t wait for a badge.
Real courage sometimes sounds like:

“Do you want to sit with us?”

This September, we want our members to take their judo into school—not the throws, but the values.

Look up. Notice people. Help when you can.

That’s what a judoka does. đŸ„‹đŸ’™

THE HARDEST STEP YOUR CHILD TAKES THIS SEPTEMBER MIGHT NOT BE ONTO A JUDO MAT.

It might be through a new classroom door.

It might be putting their hand up when they’re unsure.

Walking into the lunch hall without knowing where to sit.

Getting an answer wrong in front of everyone.

Or going back the next day after a difficult one.

Judo doesn’t make those moments disappear.

It teaches children that feeling uncomfortable doesn’t mean they can’t continue.

On the mat, they learn to fall without falling apart.

To listen when frustration tells them to switch off.

To try again without being embarrassed that they didn’t get it right the first time.

And to understand that confidence isn’t something you wait to feel.

It’s something you build—one difficult attempt at a time.

That may be the most valuable thing our members carry back to school this September.

Not the ability to avoid hard moments.

The belief that they can handle them. đŸ„‹

Would We Do It Again?

Absolutely.

Would the kids?

Judging by these faces...

We already know the answer!

THIS IS YOUR YEAR. GO AND MAKE IT COUNT. đŸ”„

A new school year means a fresh start.

New goals.
New opportunities.
New friendships.
New chances to discover what you’re capable of.

You don’t need to have everything figured out on day one.

Just walk through those doors ready to learn, ready to grow and ready to give your best.

Be brave enough to put your hand up.

Be confident enough to be yourself.

Be disciplined enough to keep going when things get difficult.

And be kind enough to notice the person who might need a friend beside them.

The lessons you’ve learned on the mat go with you:

Show respect.
Stay focused.
Back yourself.
Help others.
Never be afraid to try again.

To every Fighting Fitness judoka heading back to school this week—go after your goals, take every opportunity and make this your best year yet.

Go and smash it. We’re all behind you. đŸ„‹đŸ’™

Then somehow it's tomorrow already.

Parenthood can make the weeks disappear.

That's why having something in your week that breaks the pattern can be so valuable.

Not another responsibility.

Something you actually enjoy.

Judo gives you a chance to move, think, learn and laugh while challenging yourself in a completely different way.

You build fitness and coordination, but you also develop focus, patience and resilience.

And for one hour, you're not organising anyone else's life.

You're simply there.

If your week could use something that's yours, come and try Judo.

Not every opportunity will feel comfortable.

Your child might be nervous.

They might say they don't want to try.

They might worry they'll get something wrong.

That's normal.

Sometimes growth starts with simply having someone beside you saying:

"Give it a go."

Because that one decision can lead to a new skill.

A new friendship.

A new achievement.

And eventually...

A child who looks back and realises they are capable of far more than they thought.

That's what we're helping children discover this summer.
