Working with Laura has been the most invaluable thing that we have done in relation to our son.

We started working with Laura when Jacob was 4.5 months old.

Sleep was really tough from a nap point of view. I would have to walk miles to get him to sleep and he wouldn’t let me put him down or if he did, he would only nap for half an hour. Nighttime sleep wasn’t great either with lots of wake ups.

Laura really quickly understood us as a couple, our baby and his needs for his stage of life, and she gave us a really clear plan, that became a strategy we could flex to any situation to suit ours and our baby’s needs.

It made us feel really confident knowing what we needed to do, when, how and why.

Jacob now naps really well in his own bed, and if there are any bumps in the road we know how to handle them from what Laura taught us. He also now sleeps through the night which we are eternally grateful for.

Best of all, our son is so much happier now because he’s getting the sleep he needs!

When should I move my toddler into a bed?

This is a question I get a lot. The truth is this often happens too soon and especially with first time parents as we are often going with the flow and maybe everyone else seems to be doing it.

The facts are this:

-It is ideal to wait until a child is closer to 3 years of age- definitely over 2.5 but try to hold out as close to 3 wherever possible. If you think that moving from a cot to a bed will help to improve on sleep, BE WARNED this will almost certainly not make things better – after all they are now free to roam!

- Young children are not cognitively ready to understand the concept of staying in bed until at least 2.5 years of age. By doing it earlier than this, you may be opening a new can of worms where your toddler is really acting up and it is unreasonable to try to train a child to stay in a bed when they are not cognitively ready for that concept. They need to be old enough to understand the process and for you to explain that to them. If they are currently happy in their cot then do not rush to change things.

-Some children may climb out of the cot and so it seems like this must be the logical time to switch. Of course, if safety becomes an issue it’s then time for change. However, there are several ways to prevent a cot climber getting out and it is really important to try to prevent this transition for as long as possible before resigning to a big bed early.

Ways to prevent cot climbers are:
-Try using a sleeping bag that keep their legs from being able to c**k one up over the side of the cot (which is probably what they are going to need to do to get out). slumber sack do a great option which has feet holes and a really low-slung crotch to the ankles, which mean they can be mobile but prevent them lifting their leg over the side.

-If, however you find you have a little Houdini on your hands who come what may can get out of anything, then the best thing you can do in the interim, is to put an old duvet or mattress on the floor beside the cot. This just gives you the added reassurance that if they do somehow make it out, they won’t hurt themselves.

Key points to remember once the cot is no more!

1) Secure the room and remove (or put higher out of reach) anything that is a potential hazard such as roller blind cords, heavy objects, medicines, wires, lighting etc. Also ensure that any furniture that could be climbed upon (and therefore could tip over onto a child -like a chest of drawers or bookcases), are securely attached to the wall using anti tip attachments. These can be purchased easily from Homebase B&Q Amazon etc.

2) It is also a good idea that at the same time as you remove the cot, you gate the door of their bedroom using a stair gate. This makes their new safe space an extension of the cot and they won’t know any different if it is done in this way. It is also highly effective to prevent unwanted visitors appearing in your bed in the middle of the night/ early morning!

Debbie (Mummy to Rafi , 5 months)

Hi my name is Debbie and this is Rafi. Rafi is 7 months old and the youngest of 3.
We first contacted Laura when Rafi was 5 months old, being the youngest of 3 we quickly realized that Rafi’s sleeping habits needed Laura’s help. Before starting Laura’s plan Rafi was sleeping a total of 40/50mins in the whole day and for all of these naps Rafi was fed to sleep in my arms. The nights weren’t much better with Rafi waking 7/8 times at night and each time I was breastfeeding back to sleep; we had created sleep habits that weren’t sustainable for Rafi or us as a family!
We contacted Laura at a time when we were all very fragile and exhausted and immediately Laura reassured us with 100% confidence that if we stick to the plan she wrote for us that we would all get a full nights sleep.
Laura quickly recognized that the problem was Rafi was overtired and couldn’t self soothe to sleep.
The first few days of the plan were very tough but Laura was always on the other end of a call or email to support us and reassure us that we were doing the right thing and to keep the end goal in sights.
2 months on and Rafi is now napping like a queen!! She naps for approximately 4hours daily and is getting 12 hours sleep at night! Before beginning the sleep plan Rafi was cranky and extremely overtired but now she is happy to sleep in her cot by herself and overall a very happy smiling baby!!
To say Laura’s sleep plan has changed our lives for the better is an understatement! We will be forever grateful to Laura. Xx

We'd had sleep issues with our little girl Lyra from the day she was born! She was always such a light sleeper and by all accounts, an all round 'alert' baby so never the easiest to settle!

Laura came in to help when Lyra was 13.5 months and by 14th months, Lyra was sleeping through each night. We'd read all the books but found what we needed personally was more tried & tested methods for our little 'alert baby' specifically and it took the advice from Laura to make things finally click.

Lyra now has a positive sleep association and will readily grab her sleeping bag and comforter when I say it's time for bed - which is just amazing!

Mummies and Daddies - Please remember that every baby is different..... and every family is different.

You have the right to decide how to approach sleep so it is a good fit for your situation! There really is no wrong or right. If what you are doing is working for you- that’s really great! There is absolutely no need to change a thing.

If however you would like to work on your baby’s sleep and get everyone sleeping more, get in touch and we can discuss which of my sleep packages is the best for for your unique situation 💕
