To our Year 6 Parents / Carers…
What a fantastic summer BBQ we had on Sunday 2nd July! The St John's community got together and we raised just over £900! 😊
A huge thank you to the PTA for organising such a wonderful event, to everyone that came and had fun whilst raising money for our school and to all the helpers. It would not have been possible without your support!
Enjoy Mr García doing the ice bucket challenge!

A lovely group of children from Years 3-5 has taken part today in the Woking Singing Picnic, an event organised by Surrey Arts. They've had lots of fun playing singing games and singing the song they've been rehearsing called 'Beautiful World'. Luckily, the weather has been kind to them and they've had a fab day! 😊

Pupils from St John's Primary are among the many primary school children participating in Singing Picnics today in Park!
Funded by Surrey Arts and Harvey Water Softeners, and co-ordinated by Surrey Music Hub, Singing Picnics allow children to perform songs to each other, play singing games and enjoy a picnic lunch at parks and inspirational spaces across the county.
We hope the rain doesn't stop play! 🎶🎵

Year 3 are having a wonderful time at the Strawberry Farm 🍓

Year 6 will be sad to leave their dorms behind but ready for their own beds 😊
Yesterday they made boats and tested them in the stream, today they are stream dipping and hoping to catch some fish!

A huge well done to our team of Year 4 athletes, who represented the school beautifully in the District Athletics event yesterday. The hot weather didn't stop them and they showed great determination and gave their all in all four activities: standing long jump, vortex throwing, sprint race and long-distance running.

Year 6 are having a wonderful time in Dorset. Yesterday kayaking across the bay to Swanage and then fun on the 'jumbo wobble boards'!!! Everyone slept well last night!

Year 6 Residential - what a beautiful place to call home for the next four nights!
Girls Football Update: Currently 1-1 against St Lawrence Primary School
We hope you all have a wonderful halfterm break and look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 7th June!

Year 1 and 2 have been making couscous as part of their DT learning. We had to plan our recipe and carefully practice the skills that were needed: chopping, peeling and grating. Everyone worked very carefully to prepare the vegetables but everyone agreed the best part of the afternoon was the taste-testing!

Years 3 and 4, as part of their geography topic this half term, have been learning mapping skills and how to use digital maps. Parents/carers were invited to complete an orienteering activity that the children had planned for them. The children gave their adults grid references and they had to find the location. Parents were challenged but children had lots of fun!

Girls Football Update: The girls lost their second match, but as you can see they had a lot of fun and their spirits are high!

Mill Cottage Farm Experience came to visit the school this week, a wonderful opportunity for the children to get close to the animals and learn about them.
Girls Football Update: 3 - 2 win on the first match! Congratulations girls!

Well done to our fledgling netball squad who displayed great team work and resilience in their matches yesterday. Thank you to all the supporters for coming and cheering them on, it made such a difference!

Meet the Year 6 boys cricket team who had a lot of fun, hitting 4s and 6s at the Woking schools' annual tournament on Thursday!
Match reports in next week's newsletter!

The Year 5 cricket team had a glorious afternoon in the sunshine that saw the team go from strength to strength as the afternoon progressed. Their resilience and determination were second to none.

Year 5 Cricket Tournament: First batting pair. 3 runs on the table!

Bunting fit for a King. Our hall was bedecked with bunting designed and printed by the children of year 5 and 6.
A little bit of Coronation joy

The children have had a wonderful day celebrating King Charles III Coronation!

Four of our talented mathematicians from Years 5 and 6 have been attending a series of 'Maths Masterclasses' at Halstead Prep School. This week's inspiring session was about Mathemagic! Illusions, puzzles and tricks with numbers and shapes. We also love the drama of the building (as you can see), as well as the generous snacks part way through!!

Our most successful year of football ever - ending with three spectacular wins! Congratulations to the Year 6 boys!

PTA FAMILY BINGO NIGHT - FRIDAY 19TH MAY

Children in Years 1 - 6 had the opportunity to attend a 'Fantastic FRED Experience' at the beginning of this term. This is some of the follow-up work that was created.
Food - Eating the right foods

Exercise - Being active

Years 3 & 4 were inspired by the art of Jackson Po***ck to create a milestone piece of art. This artwork has been displayed in the school corridors.

Years 3 – 6 had First Aid Training with Surrey First Aid Training last Friday.
They all learnt the importance of First Aid, how to call for help and how to put someone in the recovery position.
Each year group took part in a different workshop:
Year 3: Choking and asthma
Year 4: Broken bones and head injuries
Year 5: Bleeding, burns and sepsis
Year 6: CPR

Before the chicks were collected at the end of last week, some of the other year groups got the chance to meet them.

All 10 chicks have now hatched! There are 3 boys and 7 girls, 2 of the children and 1 grown up guessed correctly.

Yesterday Year 3 had a 'Getting the most out of Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS)' workshop.
The children had a chance to work alongside their parents / carers, and some Year 6 children using TTRS.

Some of the chicks moved to their new home today - the brooder box!

The children in Reception have the wonderful opportunity to watch eggs hatch into chicks!
Today they all had a go at guessing how many boys and girls there would be! Stay tuned for more updates!

Our Nursery now has its own page!
Please take a look, we will use this space to post photos of what the children are up to and give reminders on future events.
