In Ladybirds this week we have been finding out about mini beasts. We have enjoyed lots of sensory play with cornflour and water where different mini beasts have been hiding in and under different containers. We have been thinking of different words to describe what the mixture felt like to touch. We have been taking care of our butterflies, which climbed out of their cocoons. We set them free and watched them fly onto the bright and colourful flowers. We used tongs to collect spiders from the web, it was sticky so we had to be very careful. We also explored mark making with pens on cars where we have used our arms to push the cars along the paper to make long and short lines. We enjoyed jumping and splashing in the puddles and filled our buckets with more water to make even deeper puddles.

We were learning all about farm animals this week and were very excited to meet some animals who came to visit our school. We enjoyed stroking and patting them gently and making lots of animal noises. Inside the nursery we matched baby animals to their mummies and matched the head of the animals to their tails. We enjoyed reading Noisy Farm where we followed Sam the sheepdog around the farm, and met lots of different animals along the way, learning about what they look like and the sounds they make. Some of our farm animals enjoyed rolling around in the mud and got very dirty so we used brushes and warm water to clean them.

Last week we enjoyed celebrating King Charles’ Coronation in Ladybirds by making tasty jam sandwiches. We learnt a rhyme about picking up the bread, spreading the butter and putting on the jam. We made crowns and used glue to stick on sparkly jewels. We enjoyed sitting outside for a picnic in the sunshine where we wore our crowns. We wrapped red, white and blue wool around sticks to wave after our picnic and sang a coronation song.
