The school year is over and what a year it has been - time for a break to relax !

Wow - final session delivered - and now a Christmas break - that’s over 200 hours of online catch up tutoring delivered across year 5 to year 12 since the beginning of September during the afternoons and evenings !!

Just such great efforts shown by such a great bunch of diverse young adults who turn up week in week out on Zoom to improve their skills. They are all making such great progress.

Fantastic news about my 11+ student Mateo who has only gone and gotten himself past the first stage of entry to either Eton or Wi******er ! He said he wants to be the next Einstein - such great ambition !

Finally the school year is over and what a year it has been - time for a break to relax and rest in warm sunshine for a couple of weeks with family and friends some of whom I haven’t seen for 30 years !

I have received terrific support from students, parents and agencies over the year and have received some fantastic feedback some of which follows.

The Easter holidays are now upon us after a busy Spring term at RJ Tutoring Services !

I always seek feedback from customers on the services that I have provided and I’m always happy to receive comments.

Judge of my delight when I received the following today from two fathers of a daughter and a son respectively who are both in year 11 who have taken the trouble to write in !

I remember very well my teenage years when the motivation to study is difficult to find as the spring days open up !

When I first started this venture I had no idea how I could literally change lives and increase the confidence of young women and men.

The truth be told I was never entirely confident in my teenage years but now I can pass on the life-lessons I have learnt - not just those from a text book !

Very proud and excited to have been invited to run a business education seminar at the Gibraltar Finance Centre on behalf of the Gibraltar Insurance Institute on Tuesday 15 February.

The subject matter was ‘Protection Policies : Lessons learnt from the pandemic’. So important to ensure that as our health is becoming more and more protected that lessons are learnt and steps are taken to ensure we are financially protected.

Financial protection is best summed up with the old adage: plan for the best and prepare for the worst.

However grand our wider financial aims and goals, everything can quickly come crashing down if disaster strikes.

Good financial protection underpins every other aspect of financial planning by ensuring that, in the event of death or illness, we protect the goals and people that matter to us most.

Just under a couple of weeks to go before I wear my other hat of being a financial services trainer and travel to Gibraltar 🇬🇮 to deliver a motivational seminar to the Gibraltar financial services community and the Gibraltar public on Tuesday 15 February on actions to take to ensure that they financially protect the goals and people that matter to them most.

I spent 30 years working with blue chip financial services companies in training functions and it will be great to share all the knowledge and skills I acquired over that period to assist others who have a desire to learn and take action following events that no one ever saw coming.

Thank you Maria and to all the fantastic people at the Gibraltar Insurance Institute for setting all this up and I can’t wait to touch down on the Rock to get the seminar and learning underway and more importantly guide people through important decisions !

When you get this news from a mother who was stressed out about her son’s GCSE maths in April/May time and wasn’t coping it is probably one of the best feelings in the world that I was able to turn it around for her and her son

Update from a very happy parent of one of my students who was struggling with the GCSE mental maths non-calculator paper as the GCSE maths assessment season gets underway

‘Just wanted to let you know that my son found his first Maths assessment last week easy, which is fabulous for the non calculator paper!’

I’m just made up by this - dreams of a computer science college course placement now falling into place for him - seriously this guy will now be writing the next generation of computer code !

Just finalising all my reports for parents for April and WOW what an epic month April was.

RJ Tutoring Services delivered over 50 hours of GCSE Maths and Science tutoring into students homes via Zoom and is also delighted to be the tutoring service of choice during term time to a local school also via Zoom.

For us that is 50 hours of creating hope for local children of dream careers and futures through coaching them to get the best grades in their assessments.

A new student just taken on who has huge catch up to do from year 8 to year 11 due to his Dad struggling with home schooling but now making great progress - I’ll get you there !

I aim to keep sessions as interactive as possible and believe that practicing examples leads to better retention of knowledge and I use the whiteboard facility in Zoom to explain concepts and work through problems

I am more than happy to send copies of whiteboards with mine and students collective thoughts for them to keep as memory aids.

I encourage students to use the annotate tool on Zoom to ensure that they are engaged during the session.

Health and safety is my number one priority - burnout, stress and tiredness are not conducive to learning so we can leave it for a day or a week or we can shorten the session - I am here to help you !

Another new student taken on - year 11 maths - desperate for the best grades as teacher assessment start dates are looming up - struggling with the lower and higher bounds amongst other topics.

Wow what a half term week that was - 17 sessions completed ✅ and just fantastic efforts from my year 7, year 9 and year 10 students. They have told me their fears, their anxieties and their worries about the future but they have worked so hard this week and have just showed the greatest amount of resilience.

Some of the feedback from parents has made me very emotional

Thanks Richard, I’m very happy with my sons progress & more so because he is so happy to engage with you. Thank you so much for your time & effort. I do plan to have more sessions for him moving forward.

However my year 7 student just smashed it this week with every SATS paper I could find done and 90 quick fire mental maths questions in 30 minutes and then started slaying a year 9 paper. A future Einstein no doubt. See if you can do the ninety question challenge that quick !

They all have dreams of medicine, engineering and science and I hope that I have given them every chance !

Another student needing support taken on today - year 7/KS3 lad needs help with maths problem solving.

First online tutoring session of this year has come and gone and my 14 year old private maths student is going from strength to strength. He wants some tuition in GCSE chemistry along with his maths and I can accommodate him as that was my degree subject.

We have talked about motivation and how important it is to keep going with his studies - he particularly likes my personal favourite poem - Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If.

However I know he is very much the exception and my heart goes out to parents who are trying to cope with another lockdown where schools are now closed and home schooling is the only option.

I completely get it and I have therefore set up social media pages on Facebook ‘RJ Tutoring Services’ Twitter ‘’ and Instagram ‘rjtutoringservices’ for anyone out there to contact me who has children who require help with their studies in particular GCSE Maths and Science. These will go live very shortly and some off you will receive a 'like' request - hope that is ok !

If I can just help some of you out there with your children’s studies who are finding it really tough dealing with all the home schooling challenges along with everything else you face then I will feel I will have assisted you to try and make your children's dreams a reality

Also to have assisted some of my friends who are front line teachers who have my biggest respect along with all front line workers right now.
