Our last Forest Fun Day of the year! A small group today due to lots of poorly children (here's hoping you feel better soon) but that meant there were several adults on hand to help children with their chosen activities and to join in their fun. We found a family of frogs, made Christmas tree art with sticks, had a treasure hunt (finding the baubles dotted round the site), had a rope swing and low ropes and dug for worms and centipedes and used the hand drill and the secateurs, identified fungi - 'Candlesnuff Fungus': a new one for me! - built twig towers and enjoyed a well-earned Christmassy snack of tiffin and stolen. Photos to follow....

We'll be back in the Spring and, as from January, we'll be working with the children from Myrtle Tree Montessori once more. Merry Christmas everyone!!

Forest Fun Day time again! We had enormously muddy fun sliding down the slope and digging for worms. Several children had a go at using the hand drill and were duly thrilled with the results of their hard work. The rope swing was as popular as ever (and many congratulations to those who were new to it and who, despite initial reservations, conquered their fears and had a go!) The children also made up a hide and seek game using beanbags, discovered various types of fungi and drew some beautiful pictures. Big thanks again to our brilliant parent volunteers who helped the children to have such a wonderful time.

I have two places left on our next session - 30th November- if anyone is interested.

Another fantastic Forest Fun Day, and our first fire! Children loved toasting marshmallows, stick whittling and making up their own team games. We talked about the 'fire triangle' (science in action!) and graded the sticks from thinnest to thickest. We also found lots of different fungi. As always I was amazed by the children's resourcefulness and creativity and 2 and a half hours go like lightning!

There are still a couple of places left on our sessions in November but we're filling up fast so please contact me asap if you would like your child to attend.

First Forest Fun Day of the autumn and firelighting was a big draw!! We also went frog hunting, found signs of autumn and heard the tale of Persephone and the pomegranate seeds (whilst munching the seeds themselves - a new food for some). Oh, and we played 'Bat and Moth' - loads of fun!!!

Hooray for Autumn! We're thrilled to offer more Forest Fun Sundays for all primary-school aged children. Dates are September 14th, October 5th and 19th, November 9th and 30th and December 14th. Another fantastic Forest School Funday - even the downpour half way through our session didn't dampen spirits! Children found numerous minibeasts, made clay art, did whittling and made their own arrows, listened to the tale of Miriam Rothschild, a pioneering naturalist, and, of course, loved the muddy slide!

This is great! A simple tutorial to create a natural loom for weaving with nature!
I think this will definitely be one of our summer crafts.

Mud is very nice to feel
All squishy-squash between the toes!
