Say Yes to Mess! 🎨🌿

Mud on knees, paint-covered fingers, sand in shoes and water everywhere. It might look like mess, but for children it can be an experiment, an adventure, a work of art or a new discovery.

We’ve launched The Mess Report, new research exploring how families feel about messy play and whether children today are getting enough opportunities to experience it.

After speaking to 1,000 UK parents of children under 10, we found that 79% agree messy play supports children’s development, creativity and wellbeing, yet 70% believe children today don’t get enough opportunities to get messy.

We’re calling this The Mess Gap.

The Mess Report explores what might be behind that gap, why opportunities to pour, squash, mix, dig, build, splash and create are so valuable, and how we can make more space for them in childhood.

At Kids Planet, we’re proud to say Yes to Mess because we know there is method in the mess, and behind every muddy handprint and paint splatter is an opportunity for learning.

🌟 A Week Full of Learning and Exploration! 🌟
This week across the nursery, the children have been busy exploring, creating, and learning through a range of exciting activities linked to the EYFS curriculum.
🚗 Understanding the World – The children enjoyed a crash investigation activity, exploring cause and effect while discussing what happens during collisions and how we can stay safe.
🥕 Marketplace and Vegetable Garden – Our budding shopkeepers had lots of fun running a vegetable market, using price tags and money to buy and sell produce. This encouraged communication and language skills as the children interacted with one another, took turns, and engaged in meaningful conversations.
🧪 Potion Making – The children became little scientists as they created magical potions, exploring measuring, quantities, and mathematical language. They enjoyed comparing amounts, counting scoops, and discussing how their mixtures changed as ingredients were added.
It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, curious, and eager to learn. Through play, exploration, and conversation they have been developing important skills while having lots of fun along the way!

🌊🐠 World Ocean Day 🐠🌊
On Monday we celebrated World Ocean Day and enjoyed learning all about our amazing oceans! The children took part in lots of discussions about different seas, the animals that live in the ocean, and the differences between saltwater and freshwater habitats.

We explored a variety of sea creatures and talked about where they live, what they eat, and how ocean habitats provide homes for so many different animals. The children showed great curiosity, asked lots of thoughtful questions, and enjoyed sharing their own knowledge and experiences.

It was wonderful to see so many engaging conversations taking place as the children discovered new facts and learned more about the world beneath the waves. We had a fantastic day exploring, learning, and celebrating our oceans together! 🌎💙🐳🐙🦀

Today, Georgia set up a special station where staff could take a moment to write a thank-you card to a fellow team member. It was wonderful to see colleagues recognizing the kindness, support, and dedication that make our workplace such a positive environment.

Yesterday some of our preschoolers visited a local care home where they enjoyed spending time with residents creating beautiful flower arrangements together. 🌸💐

It was a lovely opportunity to build community links, share smiles, and enjoy meaningful conversations across generations. The children showed kindness, creativity, and confidence throughout the visit, and everyone had a wonderful time.

Happy National Nurses Day!

On Tuesday our children had a very special visit to celebrate the incredible nurses in our community 💙

Our preschool children carefully chose beautiful roses to gift to the nurses as a small thank you, while our baby room created a thoughtful care basket to show their appreciation ✨

It was such a meaningful experience for the children to learn about kindness, caring for others, and the important role nurses play every day.

🐄🐑🐖 Our babies enjoyed a very special trip to Cogges Farm this week following their growing interest in the nursery rhyme Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Over the past few weeks, the children have loved singing the song during group times, joining in with the animal sounds, and exploring farm-themed sensory activities within the nursery. To extend this interest and support their understanding of the world around them, we organised a real-life farm experience for the children to explore. 🎶🚜

Throughout the visit, the babies were fascinated by the different farm animals and eagerly watched them move, eat, and interact within their environments. The children had opportunities to see sheep, cows, goats, chickens, and ducks up close, helping them make meaningful connections between the animals in the song and real life experiences. Many of the children confidently attempted animal sounds, pointed excitedly at the animals they recognised, and used gestures and early language to communicate their excitement with practitioners and friends. 🐑🐓
