The new patented Filterspec which has won the 2011 Frost and Sullivan North America Product Innovation Award is such a case. Not only was it logical to integrate eye and respiratory protection into one harmonised unit, but also to enable protection in extreme environments. At -40 degrees Celsius, moisture emitting onto eyewear freezes immediately so a solution to eliminate mask leakage was needed. Filterspec’s integrated approach also enables a much improved face fit. This assists companies that must face fit test their employees with respiratory protective equipment as required now by the Health and Safety Executive.

With the introduction of EN 397:2025, safety helmet accessories must be tested and assessed for compatibility with the helmet they are intended to be used with.

Previously, compatibility was often assumed. Now it must be verified and documented. Using non-tested combinations may compromise safety performance, which is why compatibility has been emphasised in the new standard.

Are you planning to enjoy the solar eclipse? Make sure you're viewing it safely. ☀️🌘

To safely observe a solar eclipse, eyewear should be certified to EN ISO 12312-2:2015, the international standard specifically developed for direct solar viewing. Standard sunglasses and smoked safety spectacles are not suitable for viewing the sun, as they are designed to protect against sunlight and glare.

A solar eclipse is a rare spectacle, and total solar eclipses are even rarer. However, it's important to remember that looking directly at the sun without the correct eye protection can cause serious and permanent damage to your eyesight.

Use only certified eclipse filters and use them according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Even at 90% coverage, the sun is still incredibly bright. During a solar eclipse, the sun does not appear bright, making it tempting to look directly at it. However, harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation can still reach your eyes and cause damage without any immediate pain or warning signs.
