Woodend Farm School

Forest School is a child-led journey of exploration and play. By removing the traditional classroom walls and ceilings, we open up limitless possibilities for learning. Here, children take the lead in their own education, driven by curiosity in a boundless outdoor environment.

Forest School offers a dynamic outdoor learning environment free from the physical constraints of traditional classrooms. The curriculum is entirely child-led, allowing students to guide their own education through self-directed play, discovery, and exploration.

Innovation and creativity drive our teaching at Woodend Farm School. As part of our expressive arts topic, “Brilliant Bodies,” pupils are studying the form and structure of mannequins to master the art of portrait making.

This week our pupils have been flying. From forest school adventures to cooking creations, child‑led learning has been everywhere — giving them space to express themselves, grow in confidence and shine as individuals.

What a moment for Woodend Farm School.
We’re incredibly proud to share that we’ve been shortlisted as one of the three finalists for the Outstanding Impact Award in the National Special School Awards.

This recognition is for the impact of our Juniper Approach — our PDA‑specific pathway that was developed, implemented, and refined with the needs of our pupils at the centre.
It has been life‑changing for so many of our young people, giving them a way to learn, connect, regulate and thrive in a way that truly works for them.

Being recognised nationally for something that has transformed lives is a huge honour, and a testament to the dedication, creativity and compassion of our staff team.

A proud day for our school community 🌿✨

What an amazing few days at Woodend Farm as our pupils transition back into school — the energy has been incredible.
We’ve loved welcoming everyone back, seeing pupils settle so confidently, and filling the school with those brilliant smiling faces. The positivity, the calm, the excitement… it’s been everything we hoped for and more.

Here’s to a fantastic term ahead — full of growth, joy and Woodend magic. 💚🌿

Today we welcomed Bear to our Woodend Farms Great Baddow site for his first official visit. Bear will be joining us as our therapy dog, supporting wellbeing, emotional regulation and connection across the school. Under Miss Steadman’s guidance, he’ll be learning how to live out our values of kindness, belonging, believing and achieving. He’s already settled beautifully — and he can’t wait to meet you all.

The Woodend Farm team took on Pen y Fan yesterday and they were phenomenal.
They walked with purpose, heart and determination — all for a brilliant cause.
Proud of them on school days, proud of them on mountain days… proud of them always. 💙

On Monday, a team of Woodend Farm staff will be joining the Reach Group Community Project to climb Pen y Fan. We’re climbing for children who find the school holidays the hardest time of the year — children who need safe spaces, structure, and people who care.

If you’re able to donate, your support will help fund holiday projects that make a real difference to children who need them most.
Every donation, big or small, helps us take another step up that mountain.

Iʼm raising money to support vital project for young people across Essex. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

A perfect end‑of‑year celebration at Woodend Farm School today. Families together, children laughing, staff cheering, and a talent show that showed just how brave, brilliant and creative our pupils are.
Thank you all for an unforgettable year. Wishing every one of you a joyful summer — see you in September.
