Year 11 went off to Chelmsford Racecourse for a tremendous Careers Fair. There were over 105 exhibitors all engaging with our students over their courses, pathways into industries and training opportunities. Our students were fantastic, challenging themselves to talk to adults, listening really well and asking great questions. Students came home with a new tote bag, stuffed with prospectuses, leaflets and pens and lots to think about.

Big thanks to Mr Tovey who was our Lift Maltings representative all day, and to Mr Adams and the Year 11 tutor team for encouraging their tutor groups to make the most of the experience.

The outreach coordinator and four student ambassadors from Emmanuel College, Cambridge gave two wonderfully insightful and informative talks to members of our Year 9 and KS4 cohorts. Emmanuel is the affiliated Cambridge University college for our region so part of their mission is to reach out to schools in our area which do not have a history of either applying to or attending Oxbridge or other Russell Group institutions.

The ambassadors each spoke about their backgrounds and their experiences of life at Cambridge. Both talks managed to honestly convey the rigorous nature of the Oxbridge application process alongside debunking many of the almost urban mythical preconceptions of Cambridge University. They covered topics such as the many varied student societies offered and advice on sound bases for choice of A-Level subjects.

Last week we welcomed the brilliant Onjali Q. Raúf back for her third visit! Celebrating our Year 7 summer reading challenge, Onjali spoke to our new cohort about her moving novels, including The Game I Will Never Forget—a copy of which was gifted to every student during their Year 6 transition.

She captivated Year 7 with discussions on important themes like young carers, dementia, and refugee support, grounding her talks in her own life experiences. Our students lived up to the Maltings Way, impressing Onjali with their thoughtful Q&A questions and creative summer projects.

A special shout-out to our student librarians for their fantastic help throughout the day.

Thank you, Onjali, for an inspiring visit—we hope to see you again next year!

Last Friday our Year 11 students watched a powerful, interactive performance 'Dead End' all about road safety.

We watched as the characters experienced road accidents and their consequences. Our students were able to ask questions to the characters and play 'stop, suggest, go' to rewrite the stories to have more positive outcomes.

Our Year 11 students will be on the road as soon as next year as young drivers themselves, so this was such a timely experience, showing the issues young (or new) drivers face and how they can have their own 'my car, my rules' attitude to avoid becoming a statistic.

The theatre group praised our students saying they were a great audience who interacted really well with the performance.
