So...some of you will know about this but many of you won't...on Monday I took two Grade 1 exams, both on instruments I have either very little experience in (guitar) or absolutely NO experience in (violin) as a bit of an attempt to put myself in the shoes of my gang and remember how it feels to go into the exam room kinda scared and give it a go.

Both went pretty well, thankfully, and I thought I'd share my results with you…a merit 🎻 and a distinction 🎸!!

I'm very much hoping that the experience will make me a better teacher as I can now recall first hand how tough exams are - but I'm also hoping it will inspire my students to keep pushing and keep trying because believe me, if I can get a merit in a violin exam then anything is possible!

Huge thanks to Elaine for accompanying my violin exam, and for all who have known about this crazy plan and supported my efforts. My favourite moment was when the examiner stopped midway through the second aural test and said 'we could swap places, couldn't we?!' and then wrote 'flawless' on my mark sheet for that part of the exam. I may have made some very dodgy sounds on the violin (especially at the end of my second piece...it sounded like I'd punched a goat!!!) but have finally proven beyond doubt what I keep telling my pupils...if you nail the fundamentals (scales/sight reading/aural) then your exam pass is safe and you can enjoy the pieces so much more.

The relief at maintaining my reputation is palpable!!!!!!!!!

Sunday’s , Deborah Biggs Music Tuition concert at St Ives Free Church was an incredible success, raising an amazing £1,004.84 for Hunts Community Cancer Network! 🎶💙

It was a brilliant afternoon filled with beautiful music, community spirit, and shared joy. We are so grateful to everyone who attended, performed, and supported the event. Your choice to donate and raise awareness makes a real difference in the lives of those we serve.

Good evening all

Well we've added up all the proceeds from yesterday’s concert and I am absolutely delighted to announce that we have, once again, broken the £1000 mark with a total (after taking out the church hire costs) of £1004.84 raised for our amazing charity Hunts Community Cancer Network 🤍🖤

I'm both astonished and delighted...everybody worked SO hard and I couldn't be prouder of you all. Special thanks to Gerry for donating the proceeds from his book and to each and every person who joined us yesterday, whether to perform or to listen. I couldn't do what I do without you guys and I will always be grateful for you. I have the best job in the world.

A few unclaimed raffle prizes are currently in my kitchen so do check your tickets again and see if you have any of the following:

It’s a big day for today! We’re FIFTEEN! I can’t believe it’s been so long since I started this incredible journey - I’ve met and taught so many amazing people and made some of the very best friends I’ve ever had, all while making music and, in doing so, making the world a better place one note at a time 🎵

Thank you to everyone who has played a part in my merry gang, past and present. I couldn’t do this amazing job without you.

Next big date for us is our annual charity concert for Hunts Community Cancer Network on Sunday 03 November…watch this space for more details soon! For today, though, I propose cake and much music all round 🤍🖤
