Superheroes were the focus of Prep 1’s learning this half term, and the children marked the end of their topic with a special Superhero Day, celebrating their very own superpowers!

They thought about what makes each of them super, recognising their individual qualities and the things that make them special. They then designed and made their own superhero capes and eye masks before decorating superhero-themed cookies.

The excitement continued with a secret mission to rescue Supertato! The children followed clues around the School, putting their detective skills to the test until they finally tracked him down.

It was a fun-filled day of creativity, teamwork and adventure, celebrating the fact that we all have something super about us!

Our annual Piano Recital was a wonderful celebration of our pupils’ musical talent, with ten pupils performing a diverse programme of music on our Steinway piano.

From classical pieces and musical theatre to contemporary favourites, each performance showcased the pupils’ musicality, confidence and individuality.

Highlights included music by Ludovico Einaudi, Alicia Keys, Frankie Valli and Beethoven, alongside a varied selection of other repertoire.

It was fantastic to see each performer bring their own interpretation and style to the programme, with some particularly expressive and assured performances throughout the evening.

Congratulations to all ten musicians for their hard work and wonderful performances.

Kindergarten enjoyed a lovely visit from Dental Nurse Betty, who helped them learn all about looking after their teeth and keeping their smiles healthy.

The children explored the difference between healthy and less healthy foods and learnt about the best times to brush their teeth and how to brush properly.

To finish, each pupil received a goody bag containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, brushing chart, stickers and a healthy apple to help them continue their learning at home.

A fun and informative afternoon, giving our youngest pupils the knowledge and confidence to start developing healthy habits for life.

Thank you to Dental Nurse Betty for such an engaging visit!

Our Fourth Form Geographers took their learning beyond the classroom with a fieldwork visit to Snipe Dales Nature Reserve, investigating how the characteristics of a river channel change along its course.

Pupils carried out a range of practical measurements, including width, depth, gradient, discharge and sediment characteristics, developing their fieldwork skills and putting their geographical knowledge into practice.

The experience encouraged pupils to approach their investigation with curiosity while developing their expertise in collecting and analysing geographical data.

Back in the classroom, pupils will process their findings, drawing conclusions about the changes observed and evaluating the accuracy and reliability of the data they collected.

A valuable opportunity to develop practical skills and apply geographical knowledge and understanding in the field.

Prep 3 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Baytree Owl and Raptor Centre in Spalding, bringing their current topic on owls to life.

The children had the opportunity to meet several species of owl and watch them take part in a flying display, with a particular highlight being Whoolio the barn owl, whom the children were able to hold and fly themselves.

Other memorable moments included meeting Minerva, the centre’s largest owl, and watching a red-legged seriema demonstrate its impressive hunting skills as it attacked a toy snake!

It was a wonderful learning experience, with the children showing plenty of curiosity as they explored these fascinating birds up close, deepening their understanding of the owls they have been learning about in the classroom.

As part of their topic exploring the world and the people around them, Reception enjoyed a special visit to the Headmaster and Bursar’s offices.

The children had the opportunity to meet the Headmaster and find out more about his role at WGS. They then returned to their classroom where the Headmaster and Bursar joined them to continue their conversation.

It was a wonderful example of our warm and welcoming community, giving our youngest pupils the confidence to meet and talk to different members of the School, while helping them to understand the many people who make our School a special place.
