My nephew had an incident today at the school ,I just want to say massive thank you to the staff who helped and went above and beyond for him especially the first aiders ,also every pupil in the school needs to praised as they where all well behaved and followed all instructions in a respectful manor ,while part of the school was closed off due to the incident . Massive thank you to everyone at the academy x
Mrs Harris, Head of Year 8, has orchestrated a house competition/fundraiser with a difference and staff and students are loving it! They are being asked to donate their spare change with coppers counting as positive points and anything higher counting as negative points. This is where sabotage comes in. We are putting all coppers in to our own house's token boxes and anything higher in to the other house's token boxes. We are doing all of this for WIRES - Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service, the largest wildlife rescue & rehabilitation charity in Australia that provides rescue and rehabilitation for all native Australian fauna. #wires

Both items are clearly labelled 'Adam Rowntree'. Please can other parents check their child's kit in case they have packed it in error. Thanks

Welcome to The Winsford Academy's Official page! An 11-16 specialist School based in Winsford, Cheshire. 'Dream, Learn, Trust, Succeed'

The Winsford Academy (simply referred to as 'Winsford Academy' ) in Winsford, Cheshire, England was established in September 2010 following the amalgamation of the two predecessor schools; Verdin High School and Woodford Lodge High School. It is located on the campus of the former Verdin High School on Grange Lane that was established in 1970 and was initially one component of a two-campus school, with history spanning from its original founding as Verdin Technical School in 1895. In September 2013, we moved into a new, £20 million purpose-built school which includes 60 classrooms with flexible learning spaces; a 400-seat theatre in the Performing Arts Centre; Learning Resource Centre; sports facilities; science labs; drama and dance studios; music rehearsal rooms; media suites; art studios and technology workshops. Operating as usual

[09/24/20]   Don't forget to bring your name on a piece of paper and greet us in a foreign language tomorrow.

¡Buenos días!
This week at school we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages! Students will be taking part in a form time languages quiz, will be greeted in various different languages by all of their teachers and on Friday there will be an opportunity to win some Amazon gift vouchers. To be in with a chance of winning, students will need to bring their full name on a piece of paper to school with them on Friday morning. If they greet Mr Evans, Mrs Keegan or Mrs Tringham in a different language on their way into school, they can put their piece of paper in a ballot box and then names will be drawn throughout the day to win the vouchers.
Finally, Routes into Languages has launched a competition for all schools in England to take part in. Students will be given all details in form time this week but to enter they will need to design a poster about another European country they would like to visit. The poster should display which country it is and some facts about it e.g. language spoken, food, music, famous landmarks etc. – the more the better! Entries can be submitted in any foreign language or languages and may include some English if desired (for example, students may like to provide a translation of the facts they provide). Students will need to submit their entries to Miss Boyle by 3pm Tuesday 6th October to be in with a chance of winning a £20 gift voucher.
¡Buena suerte!

Whats for Dinner? Nothing if you don't click the link and make a choice!! ...only joking, we won't let them go hungry but the system will run much more efficiently if you get your order in before 9.10am on the day you would like it. You can do a day at a time or do all 5 days for the week and then its done. - just remember to put the date you are ordering for on each form.
Remember to tell your children what you have chosen or ideally talk it through together. Older pupils may appreciate ordering themselves.

[09/04/20]   Winsford Academy Open Evening

Its the time of year when parents of pupils in Y6 make their choice about which High School to choose for September next year. Under normal circumstances, we would have an Open Evening for you to come and have a look at what our Academy has to offer and we would offer tours during the day. In order to keep our pupils and staff as safe as possible during the current pandemic we are unable to invite you into our Academy. We are disappointed not to be able to meet you so to try and help you make the most informed choice, we will be holding a virtual Open Evening and our launch will be in a couple of weeks - exact date to follow. It will give you the opportunity to tour the school from your home and to listen to staff and pupils share what it is like to be a part of our Academy family. One of the most important opportunities you would normally have at Open Evening is to ask lots of questions. We would love you to post your questions in the comments section and we will have a tag in the Virtual Open Evening where we will share our responses. We won't be posting the answers in the comments section below; we will collate all the questions to form part of our virtual event. We look forward sharing this with you.

Microsoft Office

As part of our school licensing agreement, pupils are able to download the Microsoft Office applications at home. This is how we communicate with pupils in terms of homework, assignments and virtual learning should we go into a lockdown phase. Please download this and let your childs form tutor know if you have any problems. It would be good for pupils to also have the Teams app downloaded on their phones. The adobe suite is also free to our pupils. For pupils who have taken Photography as an option subject it is recommended they ensure this is downloaded at home.

Microsoft Forms

We have welcomed Y9 and Y11 back today alongside our Y7's. It has been lovely to see them and they have enjoyed being back at school.

Just a couple of things that parents and carer's could help us with:

Masks - we have given a mask to pupils who have arrived without one. Could you please ensure they are washed and used again the next day in school.

School lunches and snacks - several pupils have been disappointed today with the choices of lunch their parents have made for them. Could we ask that you complete the form together with your child so they know what to expect in their food bag. Some pupils had no idea that you had picked a snack for them and didn't come to collect it. You must click the link below to make your choices. You can always give the link to your child and allow them to complete their own form. We know that the choices are limited at the moment due to covid but we are looking to add more choices, including hot food, as soon as the current menu and collection runs smoothly. Some pupils were a little bit upset today when there was nothing there for them as parents had forgotten to order. We did of course arrange a lunch for them but as they are made to order then there is a delay to them getting their lunch. We never leave a child without lunch but it is easier for them if it is ready when they arrive.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

[07/17/20]   Y6 Parents and Pupils who are joining the Academy in September.

As part of our normal induction process, each primary school would have walked to us for a visit in the last few weeks and talked about the journey, in particular, safe places to cross roads and an explanation of the traffic light filter system for cars. We have had instances in the past where some of our new pupils have not been sure of the order of the lights and have tried to cross at the wrong time. Please take some time and practise the walk/ bike ride to and from school pointing out these things and road safety in general.

Have a lovely Summer and we look forward to welcoming you on Wednesday 2nd September.
